English with Emma: ESL Basics for Younger Learners
From 31.62 C$ /h
This class focuses on young learners with little to no English experience. I will be patient with my students, and make my lessons exciting. I support the communicative-approach; this style of teaching focuses on authentic English that will be used in the real world. While grammatical accuracy is important, I focus mainly on effective communication. My teaching style makes use of Total Physical Response (TPR), props, puppets, games, etc. I adjust my style to the learner's learning preferences and I adjust my speed according to the learner's abilities. I firmly believe in positive reinforcement, the importance of motivation, and constructive feedback. My main goal is to help students to reach their language goals and to make this language journey enjoyable as well as informative. I am a very creative person, and I love making things. A few of my hobbies include: painting, crocheting, drawing, and singing. By being able to implement some of my creative skills in the classroom, I will be able make the class more interesting and fun!

Education
I completed my BA Humanities degree at Stellenbosch University. It forms part of the Arts and Social Sciences faculty. Here, my love for languages was further nurtured. I double majored in General Linguistics and Socio-Informatics. I also have a 120 hour TEFL certificate, and I am currently taking a Cambridge course that focuses on teaching English online.
Experience / Qualifications
Child minder
A child minder looks after the children in the play pen at Spur (a family chain restaurant in South Africa). This job taught me how to be a good mediator, listener, supervisor, and entertainer.
Waiter
I worked as a waiter for two different companies, and they taught me many different things. I was able to connect with people from different backgrounds as myself, learn stories about food, and how to be a good team player.
