Computer Science for KS3 and KS4 as well as IGCSE ICT KS4
From 44.22 C$ /h
As a teacher, I emphasise activity-based learning (constructivism), which enables students to take ownership of their learning and stay engaged throughout a lesson.
Some active learning strategies that I use include Role-Playing (Year 7 students act in a drama that explains the IPOS cycle or how sensors work with computers), Debates (Year 10 students argue for and against the topic ‘Should the Internet Be Policed?’), use of Advance Organizers (Year 8 mix and match the python variable to the appropriate data type) etc.
I use such teaching approaches because teenage students need to be fully engaged in the lesson otherwise, they can get distracted.
During lesson planning, I reflect on my teaching by asking myself - am I transferring lifelong skills to my students? Are they obtaining skills that will give them an edge or a good starting point when they meet with their contemporaries? Parents should see a noticeable improvement in their child’s computer literacy after some months in my class. These principles have guided me in my over eight years of teaching
