The basic skills in maths need to be embedded before there is the application during everyday life or the development of reasoning skills. This class focuses on fluency of the basic skills, bridging any gaps within learning for this to happen and also provide challenge. Reading - developing reading skills for fluency and understanding

This reading class will enable the pupil to become a confident and knowledgeable reader. Their fluency in reading with be supported, if these needs to be at the beginning levels of Phonics or the encouragement of reading for meaning and with expression. During their fluency development their comprehension skills will be developed and challenged. This will focus on their structuring of answers, which would include answers linked to retrieval, inference, summarising and prediction.

The reading involved will be a mixture of fiction and non-fiction texts to enable variety and allow for the full range of skills to be practiced and developed.
