Knowing some Swedish can help you understand Norwegian and Danish to a great extent. Swedish is commonly understood in Finland as well.

About Me

My name is Marika and I'm born and raised in Sweden. I have lived in Stockholm all my life. I'm a former freelance web designer. Now I'm a digital artist. I occasionally get commissioned to paint portraits. I have always loved drawing and painting.

I guess I could describe myself as a language nerd! From a young age, I was fascinated with the concept of being able to understand foreign languages and read foreign alphabets. I dived into the pool of secret languages, sign language, and constructed fictional languages.
The fictional languages really clicked with me being a fan of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

I have studied Spanish and Russian in school. It's not easy to maintain those since I don't practice them in daily life, but I enjoy watching Spanish movies. I have self-taught myself some Japanese, which I actually put to use when I visited Tokyo.
Learning Latin at university has certainly opened up a new world to me.
Norwegian comes rather naturally to me not only because my grandparents were from Norway, but because it's similar to Swedish.

Linguistics is something that I truly love. It's very interesting and important to realize that as you learn a language, not only do you learn new grammar and vocabulary, you also learn to work your speech organs in a new way.

When I teach others I am very systematic and I find it really important to find out which memorizing technique works best for every student. Mix that with a bit of fun and we're good to go!

To the uninitiated, a grammar book seems to be written in another language because the meaning of the words is incomprehensible. In a down-to-earth way, I'll translate the grammar into familiar words. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning while having a positive mindset.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.
