About Me

I am Elena Stoyanova, a professional opera and musical theatre director, acting coach, and founder of Lights On, a musical theatre school for children and teenagers in Sofia, Bulgaria.
I hold a Master’s degree in Opera Directing and have extensive experience working with young performers in acting, musical theatre, stage performance, and character development. I have directed numerous productions, including The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen, as well as original musical theatre productions.
I have also completed the Broadway Teacher Workshop in New York City, expanding my knowledge of contemporary musical theatre training and Broadway performance techniques.

I'm a former New York City voice teacher/coach, professional singer and an award winning composer who has relocated to Berlin. I've taught with the most reputable children's musical theatre organizations in NYC with students of all ages as well as private students and I've worked with Broadway stars such as Laura Osnes, Karen Mason and Ron Bohmer, who have also recorded my music, and I'm excited to bring my 20 yrs of teaching experience to Berlin! I teach songwriting as well, if that is something you're interested in.

I'm a classically trained singer who performed with the San Francisco Opera and other companies both in opera and musical theatre for many years. Though I specialize now in musical theatre, I am happy and comfortable teaching you to sing in whatever style you prefer. The basics are the same! In our lessons, we will work on breath, correct vowel pronunciation, placement, diction, etc... as well as getting rid of the tension and habits that keep us from singing freely and beautifully. We will also work on the musical and dramatic aspects of the material we choose together, so that you will feel comfortable at an audition or a performance. And I keep lessons fun so that you can both learn and progress each week AND enjoy yourself!

My name is Vanessa and I am an actress, teacher and producer currently based in London, United Kingdom.

As well as training and performing within the Theatre industry since 2011, I have also taught art disciplines such as acting, singing and dance and dance fitness from the ages of 3 upwards. Some of my performance credits include, Motown The Musical, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hairspray and Legally Blonde and currently Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

For those that have a keen passion for entering into the Theatre industry, I am able to use my experience to offer professional training across all disciplines and help equip them with tools needed to thrive as a performer.

Whether it's to negotiate a contract or remuneration, defend an idea, advance a project, start a business, convince a partner, gain the support of a team, resolve a conflict or simply make yourself better understood, one thing can make all the difference: knowing who you are dealing with and how to communicate with that person.

Because there is no single way to communicate effectively.

The same method won't work for everyone. A rational person isn't persuaded in the same way as an emotional one. A cautious person doesn't react like an ambitious one. A decision-maker, a colleague, a client, an investor, a partner, or a loved one doesn't have the same expectations, motivations, or interests.

The goal is therefore to learn to observe, understand, analyze and adapt your communication in order to deploy the right tool, the right method and the right strategy, at the right time and in front of the right person.

➤ Understanding humans to communicate better

Our way of communicating relies largely on understanding certain mechanisms of human psychology.

Human beings are naturally attentive to what directly concerns them. They are sensitive to their interests, needs, fears, curiosity, recognition, need for security, and desire to be understood and valued.

The idea is therefore not simply to say what you have to say, but to understand:
-How can you make your interlocutor want to listen to you?
-How can you present your message so that it makes sense to him?
-How to spark their interest?
-How can we address his concerns before he even expresses them?
-How to create a dynamic favorable to your objective?

For example, rather than immediately presenting an idea solely from your own perspective, you will learn to identify what may interest your interlocutor and to build your communication around their concerns.

A phrase like, "What I'm about to explain could be of real interest to you, particularly because..." can capture more attention than a simple presentation focused solely on your own needs. But the techniques, tools, and methods of the modules studied together obviously go far beyond that.

Similarly, understanding certain mechanisms such as curiosity, self-interest, recognition, trust, consistency, emotion, or risk perception allows for a more relevant and effective approach.

Before communicating effectively, you must first understand who you are addressing.
