I am Julien, a drummer since childhood and a drum teacher since 2005. Trained at the Agostini School in Orléans and then at Jazz à Tours as part of a DEM Jazz in collaboration with the Conservatoire de Tours, I also worked for several years as a professional musician.

Today, I am returning to what I love most: transmitting knowledge directly and building work that is truly tailored to each student.

My teaching method is based on a simple principle: you learn drums by making music. Therefore, I don't offer a one-size-fits-all approach: we start with your level, your tastes, your learning style, and what you want to do with the instrument.

The first lesson also serves as an introduction and assessment to understand your profile and define a direction for work together.

If you're a beginner, no prior musical knowledge is necessary. We'll start with the basics of the instrument: posture, stick grip, sound, coordination, and basic rhythms, with the goal of being able to play along to songs quickly. Theory and reading music are introduced gradually as needed.

If you already play, we work from your playing and your objectives: groove, placement, coordination, technique, sound, new styles, improvisation, pieces, playing in a group or preparation for a particular project.

I also value human connection highly. I prefer a simple, relaxed, and trust-based relationship, far removed from an overly hierarchical teacher-student dynamic. It's essential to be able to ask questions, experiment, make mistakes, exchange ideas, and maintain the joy of playing.

My goal: to help you progress, understand your playing and gradually become independent, while keeping the music at the center.
Extra information
This involves regular support, and not just a succession of hours of lessons.

The main program consists of two 45-minute lessons per month, usually every other week. Between sessions, you have access to follow-up videos, exercises, and specific goals, as well as WhatsApp support to ask questions. If a difficulty requires further explanation, I can also create a personalized video demonstration of a movement, exercise, rhythm, or piece of music.

The idea is simple: the course provides the direction; the work and follow-up between sessions allow you to truly integrate the acquired knowledge and develop your autonomy.

For a complete beginner, it is possible to start temporarily with shorter but more frequent sessions, for example every week, in order to quickly establish the right reflexes before moving on to the usual pace.

For in-home lessons, I can bring a compact drum kit, allowing me to play along with you and give demonstrations directly during the session. In-home services may also, subject to eligibility requirements, qualify for the 50% tax credit applicable to personal services.

Tailor-made: alternating studio/video conference, home/video, different pace, work around a song, a group, a recording or a particular objective: a personalized formula can be built according to your needs and availability, on quote.

About Me
I've been playing drums since childhood and grew up in a family closely connected to the world of performing arts. My father is a guitarist and has always had a real talent for explaining things in a simple way, which probably influenced the way I teach today.

I started giving my first drum lessons at around 16, initially to help pay for my own drum equipment. I quickly realized that I enjoyed teaching just as much as playing: finding the right explanation, understanding how each person learns, and seeing someone make progress.

Alongside music, I am also professionally trained in cooking and still work in that field. I enjoy hands-on activities, precision and technique, but above all, human interaction. In my lessons, I therefore aim for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with plenty of communication, music and enjoyment.
Education
I started playing drums at the age of 3 at the Musique & Équilibre music school in Orléans. I then continued my training at the Agostini School in Orléans, followed by Jazz à Tours, where I studied for a Jazz DEM qualification in collaboration with the Francis Poulenc Regional Conservatory in Tours.

My training focused on instrumental technique, jazz, contemporary music, ensemble playing and live performance. I also have professional training in cooking.
Experience / Qualifications
I have been teaching drums since 2005 and have worked with more than 250 students, including children and adults, from complete beginners to experienced musicians. I also worked for several years as a professional musician.

In 2017, I took part in creating the Ludwig Drums Academy, which later became Modern Music Academy, a music school that I co-directed for several years until 2025. This experience helped me develop a teaching approach based on making music, adapting to each student and gradually building independence.

Today, I continue this work through JB Drums Studio, offering personalized drum lessons where technique and theory are always used in service of the music.

Hello,

I offer drums lessons in a warm place or at your home. Come and discover the battery differently. My mission is to help you develop your own identity on the instrument. I offer you a fun approach that focuses on the pleasure of playing.

Having followed training and courses throughout my life (conservatory, schools ...), I am passionate and dedicated to sharing all of my experience with you. I practice in many music groups and other structures (schools, associations ...).

With more than 20 years of experience in drums and more than 10 years in percussion, I teach many musical genres (jazz through Latin music, pop, hip hop, rock, hard, punk, metal ..) , the double pedal, notions of music theory, rhythmic reading. Possibility of taking percussion lessons (darbuka, bongos, African djembe, congas, jaw harp, dhol).

The programs are directly inspired by internationally recognized methods, thus being able to adapt to the needs, levels and requirements of each individual. I travel but I also receive in a room with equipment available (any age and level of practice are allowed, from initialization to professionals).

A different approach to music lessons:
My teaching is resolutely modern. Classes are a moment of musical and human sharing where error is used as a positive experience to move forward.

We work by oral transmission to complete the scores. We use onomatopoeia to quickly develop musical and felt play, rather than just reading and playing.

So ... Tempted?

No excuse, I give you couses from Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 11 pm. FROM child (from 5 years old) to senior, and from beginner to professional.
Registration possible all year round.
