About Me
I am PhD student at Lund University since 2014. For the past 5 years I have been working with a family of proteins
called cystatins, in an attempt to understand their effects on cell growth, migration and death in cancer and
neurodegenerative diseases. As cystatin C -the parent protein of the cystatins- can form amyloidogenic plaques
similar to the ones found in the brains of patients with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.Moreover, cystatin C is
a better biomarker of the kidney function than the conventional creatinine test as its value in the plasma is not
affected by gender, muscle content and age which is the case with creatinine in the kidney function test to measure
the glomerular filtration rate (GFR)
