My name is Sam and i'm a 28 year old Irish man living in Amsterdam! I have a CELTA certificate in English teaching and over three years of experience giving courses online and privately, both to individual students and groups. My students have been both beginners and advanced learners, with very different reasons for learning the language! I also have a speaking level of the French language!

About Me

I come from a little town in Ireland, though for the last three years I have been living on/off in Paris, before moving to Amsterdam! I decided to become a teacher because I love working with people, and, as a writer, I love the English language and it is great to watch people progress while I also get a better understanding of my own language!

I have been teaching for three years to many different types of students with lots of reasons for learning English; exam preparation, business English, conversation classes, general English, school exams, legal English and tech English are some of the different types of courses I have given to students of all backgrounds and levels!

My approach to teaching is to provide an environment that allows you as a student to speak as much as you can with no fear of judgement - our courses will be based around speaking, with all grammar/vocabulary and other exercises being used to bring us to this final point - speaking! I am a very patient person and can adapt to the needs of any person, no matter how big or small, so that nobody ever feels any less than they should in a classroom setting. I consider learning important, but I also consider feeling good about yourself while learning to be just as important.

As a person who lived in Paris while learning French, I understand the difficulties that can be faced with learning a language, and I can promise to provide an atmosphere that allows these difficulties to be faced smoothly.

For children who are fluent English speakers, tutoring can be given to further excel in particular areas. Subjects that interest the student such as science, history or world topics can be incorporated into the lesson to broaden their knowledge. Support can also be provided in learning organizational skills, research, and mini projects for older children. I am available to help with studying, homework, or school projects. For online learning, I use a variety of platforms, websites, educational games, and e-books to reach the learning goals of my students. Additional homework can be provided if requested.
