About Me
I have been giving private lessons since I was 15 to people at different levels of learning. I love teaching and have learned a lot from it. I believe that the teacher should have enough involvement so that the student never feels overwhelmed. A skilled teacher is one who makes the difficult feel easy for the student. Additionally, as music is a complex subject that requires a lot of study, it is important for the teacher to be able to teach the student practice and effective learning strategies based on neuroscience, which will not only help them play an instrument but effectively learn any complex skill, such as playing soccer, dancing, or playing chess. The importance of managing study time and breaks, the role of mental practice, and other external factors such as sleep hygiene, nutrition, and exercise will be topics covered in my classes. It is not necessary to study 6-10 hours a day to reach a high level in music.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Cello Performance and Teaching, Escuela Nacional de Arte, La Habana, Cuba

University degree in Musical Composition, Universidad de las Artes, La Habana, Cuba
Experience / Qualifications
I started studying cello at the age of 8. I received a comprehensive education, where I also learned to play the piano and everything one needs to know about music theory. At the age of 18, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance and Teaching, with a perfect grade. Before graduating, I was part of different high-level ensembles in my country (Cuba). During this time, I also played in various popular music groups for fun, where I played the piano or cello, but also the guitar and electric bass.

At the age of 21, I became part of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba as a cellist, while pursuing my University degree in Musical Composition at the University of the Arts. During this stage, my knowledge and understanding of music in general reached another level, and I learned about formal music analysis, aesthetics, pedagogy, and orchestra conducting.

As a composer, I have had several premieres of chamber music and symphonic music, such as a concerto I composed for cello and performed myself, or a work for string orchestra in which I was invited by the National Symphony Orchestra to conduct, an unforgettable experience.

“The heart of a teacher and the soul of an interpreter”

Let me introduce myself. I'm Laura Sofía, a Spanish pianist from Colombia since the age of 9. I graduated from the Joaquín Turina Conservatory with a degree in professional studies. Musical performance is an art that requires dedication, discipline, and, above all, a commitment to the student's growth and potential in the right direction. This is the task I will help you with as a teacher. I have experience teaching students of all ages, especially children between the ages of 9 and 12.

Class model: Completely practical and personalized, combining music theory, performance, and applying the technical requirements of the piano in a fun way, performing the exercises on the piano or on paper. Classes are recommended for those preparing for entrance exams for elementary conservatory education.

My goal is to share my passion for music, harnessing each student's full potential and respecting their pace of progress to achieve a more advanced level in the discipline or to begin learning this wonderful instrument!
