- I offer attentive and demanding teaching, but I am convinced that this is only really possible in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere - you learn better when you dare to make mistakes!
- I do not believe that there is a single method or textbook suitable for everyone. Hence the importance for me of always getting to know my students in order to build an effective progression.
- I systematically tailor my lessons to the particular needs of each student, depending of course on his or her abilities but also on his or her favorite subjects.
- I ask the students to do exercises (lexical or grammatical) at home after each lesson, in electronic (pdf) or paper format. We systematically correct them at the beginning of each class.

About Me

With a degree in history and a doctorate in information science, I started as a librarian at INA (Paris) where I worked for many information professionals (journalists, university researchers, etc.), then, in the framework of my research, combining on a daily basis fields of study as varied as the history of ideas, sociology (sociology, sociology of communication, sociology of journalism), information and communication sciences, political history and economics.

In the Netherlands, I worked on the theme of the surveillance society and new ways of being informed and — in particular, on the theme of the new forms of circulation of news content. Then I wrote a thesis on the frameworks of a critical analysis of the journalistic representation.

I started teaching French at the Alliance Française, and after a few more years of study, I opened La Parenthèse in 2014.

I am a person who is interested in a thousand things (as much in literature as in astronomy, geopolitics and history) and I therefore read a lot of newspapers, magazines and journals, which allows me to feed my lessons with varied and continuously updated material.

- 1997 : Licence et maitrise d'Histoire (Paris 1 Sorbonne) / “Public opinion
as perceived through the petitions addressed to the Chamber of Deputies between May 1873 and May 1877” (archived in the French National Library, BNF).
- 1998 : Professional degree (BA) in Information and Archiving Science and Techniques (specialization in audiovisual archiving) (1998) (Licence professionnelle “Sciences et Techniques de l’Information et de la Documentation”, option: audiovisuel) delivered by the Institut national des techniques de la documentation (INTD) and the Institut national de l’audiovisuel (National Audiovisual Institute, INA).
- 2004 : DEA (post-graduate degree) / Title: “Towards a study of silence in televised news”.
- 2010 : PhD (doctorat) / Title: “Ideology and journalistic representation. Towards a social critique-based analysis of information. A case-study of international news coverage by the French radio station France Inter”.

Experience / Qualifications

I first worked at the Alliance française (group A1, groups B1 and B2, conversation classes), then, as a teacher at La Parenthèse, I taught at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL), the International School of The Hague and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). This has enabled me to build up a solid educational background over the years.

I am Laura , a Spanish woman living in The Hague. I have been teaching and helping high school students with their homework and study methods since 2014 as a private tutor.
