About Me

I am an active experimental composer, sound artist and music researcher coming from France and based in the Hague since 2016. I have graduated from the Institute of Sonology in 2022 after 6 wonderful years in the Bachelor and Master's programmes. My works have been performed in a diversity of venues such as OSCII (Amsterdam), GRM (Paris), Orgelpark (Amsterdam), Abbaye de Royaumont (Paris), GMEA (Albi), Studio Loos, (The Hague), PAS (Berlin ). I am also a former dancer and have studied law for 5 years back when I was in France. So as you can see my path is slightly atypical. I also don't have a traditional music background but that's precisely the reason why I believe and am a living proof that music education should be accessible to anyone who is driven by a strong desire to make music.

My expertise and practice as a composer are wide, eclectic, personal, and profound. I started my musical path by DJing and mixtapes, then focused on electronic music composition and more recently on both instrumental and electronic music composition. I am also interested in 'music programming' or using a programming language for music-making (mostly with the open source and free SuperCollider).

Being a woman in the experimental music scene has its challenges and I'd be interested in supporting people that are still under represented in the field and to give them some extra confidence to blossom.

I'm a 32-year old guitarist and composer based in Den Haag, teaching electric and acoustic guitar, in combination with music theory (if that is of interest to the student). I teach in English or in Greek. I am half Greek and half Scottish and I have been living in the Netherlands for the last 6 years.

I offer lessons in all styles, to all age groups, and for any experience level (ranging from students who have never touched a guitar before, up to advanced players who are looking for new challenges).

Face to face lessons are preferable, but I also teach online.

My Credentials:
I hold a Bachelors of Music degree from Birmingham Conservatoire (UK), and a Masters of Music from The Hague Royal Conservatory. My experience as a guitarist ranges from classical guitar studies, to playing electric guitar in rock bands, as well as experience as an improviser, performer of notated contemporary classical compositions, creator and performer of ambient and electronic music. I also am very experienced in ambient and electronic-influenced guitar music, which has given me an in depth knowledge also of the guitar in combination with technology such as guitar effects, computer software and multichannel setups which expand the audio palette of the guitar. I have written songs, I have written orchestra pieces, I have worked as a DIY home producer, I have released albums, and I've performed in concert halls, rock venues, squats and festivals. I even some experience in beat-making.

My music has been performed in and has taken me to several countries, including Portugal, The Czech Republic, The U.S.A., Canada, Korea, Greece, The U.K., The Netherlands.

My Teaching style:
My emphasis is to teach you based on your interests and your needs. The lessons are based around each individual student. You bring me the music you like and the things you want to learn, and I build my lessons around that.
I've taught students everything from post-rock, to metal, to K-Pop to Nepalese songs... This way the student gets to explore music on their terms, and not based on a pre-decided set of songs or exercises. Alongside this I bring exercises and other songs that help build around the skills we learn through your songs, and help you develop the techniques needed for you to learn to play the music you love. Whatever music excites you I encourage you to bring it to our lesson, as this also gives me a chance to discover some new music !

What's more, depending on your interest, we can also explore music theory, ideas on composition and songwriting, even the basics of how to record your own songs at home.

For experienced players:
If you are an experienced player looking for new challenges and new perspectives, my wide ranging knowledge of music in a large spectrum of music will help you push your playing and knowledge of music into new worlds !

While rhythm is a core element of strong musicianship, developing a solid rhythmic foundation through voice and body is sometimes completely overlooked. In particular, the use of voice and body — key to embodiment — is neither automatic nor self-evident as a way to internalize rhythm, and too often reading rhythmic solfège is the only path explored.

In these lessons, we will practice rhythm through the understanding and application of Konnakol (South Indian Carnatic rhythmic solfège) alongside other techniques and approaches, in order to conceive of rhythm in different ways and integrate it into performance.

We will work on rhythmic freedom and embodiment, internal pulse and timing, subdivisions and grouping, phrasing and patterns displacement, cross-rhythms, odd meters, and different feels. You will come away with new ideas, improve your timing, greater independence in your playing, and obtain a set of tools to practice self-sufficiently.

I am Michele, a professional musician with more than 15 years of experience and with two Classical Guitar Master's degrees. I give guitar and music theory lessons for all ages and levels, from beginner to advanced players.

I believe that following a path that best suits the characteristics, tastes, and goals of each student is the best and funniest way to learn an instrument. Each of my lessons is unique and adapted to the student's personality.
At first, I usually aim at the acquisition of basic knowledge relating to the instrument. Then, you decide what to learn: from classical guitar to electric or acoustic guitar, from classical music to rock, pop, or folk!

For instance, if you want to learn how to play classical music, we are going to work on how to read and interpret a score, acquire a good technique (arpeggios, scales, and control of polyphony) while always focusing on the meaning, the feeling, and the direction of the musical piece.

At the same time, if you want to focus on other genres (such as rock, pop, etc...) we are going to work on improving your ear skills, sense of rhythm, and theory knowledge while learning the songs you like the most. Max for Live is a tool bundled with Ableton Live that lets you program your own instruments and effects without writing a single line of code. With this course you will get a better understanding of the components of a synthesizer, learn the fundamentals of some of the most known and recognizable effects and learn some basic notions of programming.

Max uses a visual approach to programming, meaning you do not have to right codes to make your own plugins, instead you connect blocks that each have a specific function into an interconnected network that make a functioning instrument or effect.
