English is a language which is growing in In importance and is widely accepted as a key skill to have. My name is Louis and I am a 21 year old student at Leiden University at the campus in The Hague. I am a native English speaker and before The Netherlands, I have lived in the UK for 17+ years; all of my school education has been in the English taught British school system. This has helped clients in particular, with children in a British school here. I have designed my classes with the aim of building the basic skills required in holding conversations, succeeding in an English speaking environment but also teaching students who have an advanced level but require extra help (often with the technical side, for example the rules surrounding tenses and other grammatical points). The classes are best performed on a one to one basis but I have taught small group sessions (less than 5) before. I hope for my lessons to be fun, informative and practical.

English is falsely presented as an easy language, especially by French speakers. This is a serious mistake! While French is often difficult because of the many grammatical exceptions, particularly regarding spelling, English is endowed with immense complexity in terms of its sounds. Whereas the French speaker complains about itchy eyes, the English speaker will have difficulty hearing you, and no, it's not snobbery; their ear has been educated in a more subtle way. The greatest difficulties in English come from its chaotic sounds, which at first seem absurd or even useless, while they are proof of the many influences and transformations of this language, which has become the de facto lingua franca almost everywhere on the planet. To simplify, English is the result of a Germanic invasion of Celtic lands, Latinized by Vikings speaking Old French from Normandy.
