ENGLISH, ACADEMIC WRITING, INTERNATIONAL LAW AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS, SECURITY

From 58 C$ /h

Hi there!

My name is Gabriela, and I graduated with a Master of Science from Leiden University four years ago. Since then, I've been working in international organizations and recently joined the private sector; my day-to-day work is mostly focused on keeping people safe and secure by analyzing geopolitical, economic, social, legal and security developments globally.

My area of expertise is in the fields of Criminology, International Relations, International Law and Security Studies. I also provide tutoring in English for academic purposes (including IELTS prep), intensive writing and research methodologies.

I have substantial experience in writing academic research papers on a wide variety of subjects. I am here to help high school students and undergraduates develop their writing and analytical skills and become more confident in their abilities. I am also experienced in teaching English as a second language.

My purpose is to motivate and help students solve problems and come up with solutions on their own. I believe that with the right kind of preparation, no subject can be ‘too difficult’. I like seeing students going the extra mile and overcoming obstacles. My teaching method consists of giving students specific guidelines and directions so that they can engage in a learning process and become efficient problem solvers themselves. I see tutoring as the first step towards progress, but I want my students to develop the skills necessary to become successful learners on their own!

I also provide teaching support for younger students. I have experience working with children aged 7 to 14 years old.

Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information.

To make the most out of our classes, I encourage students to send via email any related preparation materials, assignment guidelines etc. a few days prior to the lesson.

About Me

My name is Gabriela, and I was born and raised in Bulgaria. I lived in the Netherlands for five years, where I completed my studies and worked in an international organization afterwards.

I graduated Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude from University College Roosevelt, an international honors college of Utrecht University. I majored in Political Science, International Relations and International Law. However, the interdisciplinary approach of my program allowed me to take courses from different disciplines and thus broaden my academic knowledge and develop my expertise in advanced academic writing and research methodologies.

In 2020, I graduated with a Master of Science in Crisis and Security Management from Leiden University.

I’ve been tutoring with Apprentus for some time now and I must say that giving lessons is one of my favourite activities! I teach part-time mainly because interacting with and providing support to other students has always been a passion of mine, plus I absolutely love how much students can teach you in return!

University English Instructor| Started teaching English 9 years ago| Specializing in Conversational English.

My teaching approach is designed to develop communication skills above all. We watch or read materials, such as videos, articles, stories, poems, caricatures, then discuss them; we act out situations from everyday life; we take positions and practice debates. However, this doesn’t mean that we just practice speaking. I also make sure the learner is not running in circles. I’m here to ensure that they do not keep repeating the same mistakes or keep using the same expressions over and over in conversation.
In order to keep making progress, I take my student on a journey that involves:
• Improving their grammar.
• Fixing their pronunciation.
• Enriching their vocabulary by learning to use new words and common idioms.
By the end of this course, you should be able to speak English fluently and confidently.

PS: Because of my academic specialty, I also help with academic writing and creative writing.

I am a state-certified translator and have been preparing students for the German Abitur (university entrance exam) for years, achieving targeted and successful results. The lessons are completely individualized: We specifically address your knowledge gaps, practice the most important command words, and build the exam confidence you need. Everything takes place online and is precisely tailored to your level and goals – whether you're preparing for written exams, oral exams, or the entire Abitur (university entrance qualification).

Many of my students have achieved noticeably better results and significantly more self-confidence thanks to my clear and calm teaching methods. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to schedule a free trial lesson. I look forward to meeting you.
