About Me
Polish pianist Maciej began playing music at the age of seven with cello being his first in- strument. Following the footsteps of his mother he took on violin when he was nine, and at the age of 11, trumpet became his major instrument allowing him to win his first competition at the age of 13.
He started learning piano at the mature age of 17 under the guidance of well known Polish pianists, Katarzyna Popowa Zydron, Waldemar Wojtal and Wlodzimierz Wiesztordt.
Maciej completed his studies with Martino Tirimo at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Nigel Clayton at the Royal College of Music.
Since 2010 Maciej became a featured artist, performing recitals on the world’s most luxurious ocean and cruise liners, including The Yachts of Seabourn, Regent, Oceania, Silversea, Azamara, and has sailed around the whole globe and visited all continents including The Antarctic.
In 2011 Maciej started an exciting collaboration with brilliant young British clarinettist James Mel- drum. Together this vibrant classical duo offers a repertoire of the core clarinet and piano chamber music. Their recent performances include The Baltic Philharmonic in Gdansk; Poland, The Apex in Bury St. Edmunds; UK.
In the early months of 2013 Maciek & James released their first CD album “Grenadilla and Ivory” which was met with tremendous success among lovers of classical music.
In 2014 they performed Poulenc’s Clarinet Sonata live on Texan Classical Radio station KMFA prior to their recital in Austin, TX.
Between 2015 and 2017 Maciej studied piano accompaniment with RCM professor Nigel Clayton FRCM.
Engagements in 2015 have included appearances at the Hay Music in Wales, Zelazowa Wola in Poland, Arvo Part festival and Salon Branoul Recital in Den Haag as well as Dutch national tour of “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” with New European Ensemble.
Since 2016 Maciej regularly appears on the Dutch music scene as an accompanist with several choirs like Rotterdams Operakoor and Cecila English Choir to name a few. He became a regular repetiteur for modern opera company Opera2Day in Den Haag.
In June 2018 Maciej & James gave another series of recitals for New European Ensemble, this time in venues around The Netherlands including Den Haag and Amsterdam.
In July the duo gave a recital of works by Bernstein, Gershwin, Giampieri, Horovitz, Muczynski and Piazzolla in Austin TX.
Maciej has performed in most prestigious venues in Europe including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Cadogan Hall in London, Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Tivoli Vredenburg to name a few.
