About Me
I am an experienced international school English and Media Studies teacher with over 20 years of teaching, tutoring, and exam preparation experience. I have taught students from a wide range of backgrounds, including native English speakers, bilingual learners, and students who are still developing confidence in English.

My teaching style is supportive, clear, and structured. I believe students make the best progress when they feel comfortable, understand exactly what they need to improve, and are given practical steps to help them move forward. I try to make lessons focused, engaging, and adapted to each student’s level, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

I have particular experience supporting students with English Literature, English Language, academic writing, essay structure, reading comprehension, exam technique, Media Studies, and university preparation. I also work well with younger learners, helping them build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, vocabulary, and general communication.

As a parent of two children myself, I understand the importance of patience, encouragement, and building a positive relationship with young people. I aim to create lessons where students feel supported but also challenged to improve.

I am happy to work with students who need help catching up, preparing for exams, improving their confidence, or extending their skills to a higher level.
Education
I hold a PGCE teaching qualification and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. My academic background has given me a strong understanding of language learning, literacy development, and how students acquire English as an additional language.

I have also completed the NPQLT, the National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching, which has supported my work in curriculum development, teaching strategies, assessment, and student progress.

You may want to add your exact university names here:

Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics — Leicester University
PGCE — Birmingham University
Bachelor’s Degree — Lancaster University
NPQLT: National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching
Experience / Qualifications
I have over 20 years of experience teaching English, Literature, Media Studies, and academic skills in international school settings. I have taught and prepared students for a range of examination courses, including Cambridge IGCSE First Language English, IGCSE Literature, A Level Media Studies, IBDP English, IELTS, and TOEFL.

My experience includes:

Teaching English Language and Literature to secondary school students

Preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE and A Level examinations

Supporting EAL students with reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and speaking

Helping students improve essay writing, analytical paragraphs, and exam responses

Teaching Media Studies, including film, representation, advertising, magazines, and practical media production

Supporting students with academic writing, coursework, presentations, and independent research projects

Designing personalised learning plans based on students’ strengths, weaknesses, and goals

I have worked with students of many different ability levels, from those who need very clear step-by-step support to high-achieving students preparing for top examination grades or university applications.

My tutoring approach usually begins with identifying the student’s current level, understanding their school requirements, and then creating a clear plan. Lessons are practical and focused, with examples, modelling, guided practice, feedback, and achievable next steps.
