I am a tenacious, fun loving and laid back mathematics teacher among members of staff. When I teach students I display high levels of intellect, a conscientious manner, a good sense of humour and give rewards not only sanctions. I enjoy using a diverse range of methods when I teach such as game based teaching, collaborative lessons, investigative approaches, connectionist teaching and topic based teaching whereby I relate maths to the everyday lives of students‘.

In addition, my teaching style encourages student participation and discussion. It is a mixture of facilitative teaching and instructor led lessons. It aims to ensure that each student is stretched to their limits and hence incorporates differentiation. To diversify my teaching, I encourage peer learning whereby students who have understood an idea in maths, teach their understanding of maths to those who are struggling to understand. When it comes to marking work, I get students to mark their own work as well as regularly marking their work myself and giving written feedback.

This is my belief about mathematics: “mathematics is the most beautiful subject in education and life: it is artistic, scientific and the language of the sciences. It is discovered, adapted and open to invention. Mathematics is profitable to the person who understands it well. It is a waterfall of knowledge: one never tires of washing themselves with mathematics“ (Timothy, 2018).

About Me
I would like to work as a Maths Tutor because I have 11 years teaching experience which has helped me develop into a passionate, diligent, and rounded professional. I have successfully completed a Post Compulsory Professional Graduate Certificate of Education in Mathematics with Numeracy from University College London (UCL). The certificate is equivalent to a Level 7 Masters Teaching degree and is from the world leading university for education.

I have an excellent track record educating pupils of different ages and abilities in mathematics within pressurised academic settings. My teaching expertise is both diverse and widespread and encompasses learning support, lesson planning, skill development, student relations, assessments, inspections, regulatory standards, child behaviour management and much more. I am a highly committed and creative mentor who uses modern and innovative teaching methods to successfully teach students of different ages and with different abilities. Methods include the use of investigative approaches to learning, games-based learning, collaborative learning, interactive lessons and encouraging student discussion as well as using topic-based teaching, whereby I link maths topics to the everyday lives of students. These methods to teaching help to make learning maths fun and enjoyable and have proven to bring about significant academic improvement compared to only using “old school” methods of teaching.

To conclude, I am an accomplished communicator with the natural ability to help and motivate pupils to improve results and succeed in exceeding their expectations for themselves. Dynamic, proactive, and highly driven, I am looking for a role that allows me to continue my career development as a maths teacher.

INTERESTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Competitions: I entered and progressed to the final of the UCL Business Game 2017 and the semifinal of the UCL Summer AdVenture Programme (2017).

Anell
Introduction:
Hello, my name is Anell, and I'm 20 years old. I am currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of West London, entering my third year this October. I am excited to offer my tutoring services to primary and secondary school students, particularly focusing on GCSE Maths.

Experience and Qualifications:
I have had the opportunity to work in primary schools during my work experience, which has given me valuable insights into the education system and the needs of young learners. Additionally, I currently nanny for three children between the ages of 8 and 11, enhancing my ability to connect with students on a personal level and create a supportive learning environment.

I have received excellent academic results, achieving all 7's and 8's at GCSE, and obtaining a B in A-level Maths, C in A-level Physics, and a B in A-level Graphic Design. These achievements demonstrate my strong background in mathematics and related subjects.

Passion for Teaching:
As someone deeply passionate about civil engineering, I find joy in helping others understand and excel in mathematics, a subject that is crucial in my field of study. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed, and I am dedicated to providing personalized support and guidance to help my students reach their academic goals.

Tutoring Focus:
I am particularly enthusiastic about tutoring GCSE Maths, as I believe this is a critical stage in a student's educational journey. By building a strong foundation in mathematics, students can gain confidence in their abilities and develop essential problem-solving skills that will serve them well in the future. My typical lesson would be from 45 minutes to an hour.

DBS Check:
For your peace of mind, I have an up-to-date DBS check, ensuring that I have been verified and cleared to work with children."

Techniques and teaching methodology:
-Understanding Student's Needs: Begin by assessing the student's current level of understanding and identifying their strengths and weaknesses in mathematics. Understanding their goals and challenges will help tailor the lessons accordingly.

-Personalized Learning: Create a personalized learning plan for each student based on their needs and learning style. Different students may require different approaches, so adapt your teaching methodology accordingly.

-Hands-On Learning: Incorporate hands-on activities and real-world examples to make abstract mathematical concepts more tangible and relatable. Use props, visual aids, or interactive games to illustrate complex ideas.

-Gamification: Turn math into a game. Create math-related challenges, puzzles, and competitions to engage students and make learning enjoyable. This approach fosters a sense of friendly competition and encourages active participation.

-Relatable Context: Connect math to real-life scenarios that students can relate to. Showing practical applications of mathematical concepts helps students understand their relevance and increases their interest.

-Encourage Questions and Discussions: Create a safe and open environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and discussing their doubts. Address misconceptions promptly and celebrate students' curiosity.

-Progressive Difficulty: Start with simpler concepts and gradually increase the difficulty level as students gain confidence. Building a strong foundation is essential for tackling more complex topics later.

-Positive Reinforcement: Celebrate students' achievements and progress, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement boosts confidence and motivates students to keep learning.

-Regular Assessments: Conduct periodic assessments to track students' progress and identify areas that need further attention. Use the results to adapt your teaching strategies accordingly.
