What images and ideas come to your mind when you see a harp or hear its sounds? Maybe you think of the angels flying in the sky with a harp in their hands. Maybe you have the image of musicians in ancient temples getting into a trance as they played music with great reverence and devotion to their deities. Maybe you think of princesses and royal ladies playing their harps and spending a nice afternoon together in the luxurious music room of a castle. The harp is often associated with beauty and elegance, and this is what I would like to share with you in my harp and classes. I will teach you to play a wide range of repertoire, from traditional Celtic and Welsh tunes to well-known classics such as Pachelbel's "Canon in D", Disney songs, Christmas songs (such as "Mary, Did You Know?" by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene), and music for various ceremonial occasions such as weddings. I want my harp classes to be a relaxing and delightful experience of enchantment after a busy week at work or school.

Extra information

My mother tongue is Cantonese, but I speak fluent English and obtained Level B2 in Dutch in December 2022. I give my harp classes in both English and Dutch. The two harps I use for my harp lessons are a 29-string height-adjustable lever harp and a 35-string lever harp. If you want to practise the harp during the week outside my lesson times, you can make appointments with me and come to my place to practise for either 30 minutes.

About Me

My name is Wai Lam, or you can address me with my European name Eleanor. I began learning the piano when I was 10 years old, until I graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a bachelor's degree in music in 2003. During my three-year university education, I also took harp lessons and learned a number of Chinese musical instruments. After I obtained my music degree, I worked as a secondary school teacher for 6 years, teaching music and conducting choirs. In 2010, I began my study of philosophy and theology at the Holy Spirit Seminary College of Theology and Philosophy in Hong Kong. While studying at the seminary college, I worked as a part-time piano tutor at Rockson Piano (Hong Kong) Company Ltd., teaching piano and music theory. I also gave aural training to students of other musical instruments to prepare them for ABRSM instrumental exams. I came to Belgium in 2016 for my master's studies in philosophy. Outside my studies, I played music at religious services and performed for the elderly people in the retirement homes.
