I was born and raised in Ghent, Belgium, and spent my formative years in the UK, where I graduated in Modern Languages—Chinese and French—from The University of Westminster in London. After completing my studies, I spent two decades in Asia, primarily in Greater China. Now back "home", as a full time dad of two princesses who have Chinese heritage, communicating in various languages - sometimes in one sentence - is just part of our day.

With hands-on teaching experience in China, the UK, and Belgium, I adopt an engaging and intuitive approach to language learning. I tutor English, French, and Mandarin Chinese, applying the same creativity I used in my past career, which involved leading teams, crafting brand stories, and working across cultures.

My sessions are customised to meet each student’s specific needs and interests. They combine real-world context, clear structure, and inspiring storytelling—making them ideal for professionals, students, or anyone eager to enhance their language skills with a tutor who truly understands how communication works across different languages.

Devoted father of two, linguist, traveller, musical aficionado, lover of all things delicious and beautiful, creative industries professional, and aspiring author.

Following my education in the UK (BA Modern Languages: Chinese and French), I spent two decades in the Far East working in branding and marketing, helping some of the world's most desired companies across various industries by applying a unique linguistic, cultural, and industry skill set.

My passion lies in strategic, creative storytelling that sparks authentic moments—whether for a global brand or a single student. I've always thrived in guiding teams and inspiring people to bring out the best in themselves.

I teach (basic) Dutch to (young) adults who speak other languages. The purpose of the lesson is to be able to have easy and simple conversations in daily life. In addition, there is also practice on language comprehension and written language production. We practice Dutch on the basis of role plays, audio clips and newspaper articles. Also people who already have some knowledge of Dutch are more than welcome to join. During the first lesson we will discuss your requirements so that I can adapt my lessons accordingly.

Korean cinema and TV culture are especially fascinating. And the quality is very high. Boong Joon Ho’s Parasite won 4 Academy Awards as proof of that. If you want to experience Korean films and Korean dramas to their full extent, speaking Korean is a must.

Talking to someone is the best way you can practice new languages. When I was a teenager I moved to Canada for six months to learn English, and even if I struggled at the beginning, pushing myself to have crooked conversation with friends was the perfect way to start mastering the language.

With my thorough knowledge of the Chinese language and culture, we will search together for the appropriate way to master the language. In my experience, everyone learns in a different way, so we will find out together what is the most fun!

I graduated in 2017 as a Sinologist at Ghent University (Chinese language and culture). I also obtained a master's degree at Sichuan University (四川大学) (2018). After that, I spent a few years in China. In addition to a basic course with an emphasis on oral, I create lessons that go beyond just language. Chinese language is embedded in culture and history, so we also take a moment to reflect on that. I have experience with private lessons for adults who move to China as expats, but the lessons are flexible and for all ages!

Lessons:
I use a basic Chinese course but there is a lot we can fill in ourselves. What kind of series/films do you like to watch? Is there any music you like to listen to? Through these questions I can recommend certain Chinese music and series that we can work with. For example, instead of homework I will give a film to watch, this way we learn through absorption instead of forcing ourselves to remember everything. If it is fun, everything sticks better!

Would you like to focus more on speaking instead of writing or vice versa? That is possible, in which situations would you like to use Chinese? For work or for a trip? That way we can adapt the lessons to personal wishes.

Once we have progressed a bit further, I also organize lessons and dinners with Chinese friends in Ghent or Brussels, so we can practice with real "native speakers".
