English - conversational English and practicing everyday speech

From 31 C$ /h

**COVID19 pandemic update: Given the circumstances and taking our safety into consideration, I am currently not giving lessons in person. I am, however, available for skype lessons. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe!**

A passionate lover of the English culture and lifestyle, I have acquired official certification equivalent to Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) level, corresponding to level C2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (the highest level possible). After living in the United States for two years, I am currently pursuing a double major Anglais/Etudes Internationales at the Sorbonne University in Paris.

My experience in France has taught me that due to the specific nature of the English language and the limited time to practice it, there is an issue when it comes to conversational English. This is what my lessons will focus on - everyday conversational English, correction of accent, learning about stress and sentence dynamics which help you to sound more natural and understanding of phonology and the IPA transcription.

If you are shy when it comes to expressing yourself in front of others; if you find yourself lacking the "proper" expressions or tools to engage in everyday conversations; or if you just want to learn what does "hitting the books", "to lose your touch", or to "pitch in" mean - this class is probably for you. And I promise you we'll have a lot of fun while learning!

Note: This class focuses mainly on American English.

About Me

COVID-19 UPDATE: With few exceptions, all classes offered are online, until the situation is considered safe enough for face-to-face classes. Contact me for further information.

My name is Joanna. I recently graduated English philology at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and was at the top of my class. I have spent most of my time traveling around the world and getting to know different cultures and people.

For me English is something more than a language. Nowadays it has become a gate to an ever-growing global community which encompasses people from all nations. You literally hear it everywhere you go. Funny enough, the first language a French native and a German native would probably pick in order to speak with one another... you guessed it, it's usually English! I find that fascinating.

But in a world where everyone speaks English, how many people can say they really know English? With an extremely rich vocabulary, complicated grammar and pronunciation that makes no sense to most foreign speakers, it is no wonder that today most of us find themselves either speaking "broken English" or completely shut down and fail to interact, even though we have all the tools necessary.

This is exactly why I chose to teach English the way I will - by conversing about popular cultural topics, exchanging cultural differences and learning idioms, learning everyday expressions while focusing on intonation, accent and a little bit of grammar and phonology.

I break down my English classes in 3 main components: spoken & everyday English, English grammar, and English culture, literature and civilization. This gives my students the chance to focus on one particular area they want to improve, or engage in a comprehensive program in order to see improvement in all of the above. In addition, I also offer essay/presentation corrections and English writing classes, so do not hesitate to contact me for more info!

Former English bilingual speaker at the City of Paris, I want to help students to be more comfortable speaking during conversations on current or cultural topics. I note in writing - correction sheet - vocabulary, grammar rules to study or review, at the end of the course the vocabulary and grammar rules are recalled. The correction sheet is given to the student and reviewed in the next class.

English, although it is an easier language than some others, can, at times, prove to be complicated.

Bilingual following my childhood spent in England, I offer support from elementary school to high school (and more), whatever your level (basic or not).

Whether it is for a school aid or to better understand English, speak it, review basics that have not been completely acquired, build sentences, write paragraphs, analyze words and use them, improve pronunciation, spelling, translating, or just conversing in English ..., I offer my help.

My services in learning English are quite broad: we will analyze what you are missing and I will adapt the course according to your needs, so that it is no longer a problem.

My lessons will primarily consist of conversation tailored to the student's level. Our lessons can be structured around the topics covered at school. We will work on any difficulties the student may be experiencing. This will be in-depth homework help: the conversation will be mainly in English, and the discussion will be fluid, with the aim of allowing the student to improve their grammar and vocabulary skills. I can then provide additional exercises to supplement those given in class, in order to delve deeper into the subject and guide the student as much as possible.

Do you want to learn English but don't know where to start? Or do you already have some basics, but struggle to speak and feel comfortable?

I offer English lessons for beginners, tailored to each student's level, pace, and goals. The idea is to learn progressively and practically, in a relaxed and pressure-free atmosphere.

We can work together on conversation, everyday vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, listening and reading comprehension, as well as useful English for traveling, working or simply communicating more easily.

Each course mixes structured explanations and practical application, in order to understand the basics but above all to know how to use them naturally.

Being bilingual in French and Arabic and fluent in English, I can also explain certain concepts in French or Arabic if necessary, which can be particularly helpful for complete beginners.

The lessons are fully personalized: we progress at your pace and according to what you want to improve. The main goal is to help you progress while giving you the confidence to use English in real life.

Graduated from Sorbonne University and currently a doctoral student at EHESS, I have been teaching and supporting students for several years in the context of academic support and private lessons.

Throughout my experience, I have worked with students with varied profiles, from primary to high school, which allows me to adapt flexibly to the needs and pace of each individual.

I offer personalized support, tailored to each student's level, pace, and goals. My objective is to help students make lasting progress, better understand their lessons, and regain confidence in their schoolwork.

To provide effective support, I begin by precisely identifying the student's difficulties. I then adapt my methods to help them structure their learning, focus on their homework, and better prepare for tests and exams.

Thanks to rigorous and supportive monitoring, students gradually improve their academic results, autonomy and motivation in all general subjects.
