About Me

I specialised in English at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, where I undertook both a PhD and an MPhil ('with Distinction'). Prior, I obtained a broader background across comparative European, especially Germanic and Slavonic, literatures, linguistics, languages, and related histories and philosophies, completing a BA Hons at Utrecht University, Netherlands ('summa cum laude', equivalent to 'Double Class I with Distinction'), and concluding my earlier school education in Slovenia (with results equivalent to '6A*s' at A-Level and '14A*s' at GCSE/IGCSE level) after having lived across a number of European regions. Throughout, I have been fully funded through a number of academic awards (including awards made through The Cambridge Trust, Le Bas Fund, and numerous others).

For the past couple of years as a postgraduate, I have provided instruction and dissertation supervision to (first throught to final-year) undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge (including topics across the modern and contemporary periods, and in critical history, theory and analysis) as well as provided assessment and moderation of applicant entrance examinations and interviews (including as part of the CELAT/ELAT and CMLAT/MLAT). Outside of Cambridge, I have at the same time also provided tuition to a number of independent adult learners, postgraduate, undergraduate, secondary and middle school students through a selection of Continued Education Courses, Summer Schools, Access and Support Initiatives, and privately (in the literatures, linguistics, languages, philosophy, history, and more).

As my work is cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural, I can offer individually tailored lessons within a number of subjects in the arts and humanities (up to MA level within my areas of specialism, which include English literature, language and culture, and up to BA level otherwise), along with aid with critical reading, analysis, and writing skills (up to MA level). In addition to literary and linguistic studies, I have regularly also crossed into art, philosophy, history, politics, and related areas, including as part of editorial roles at The Cambridge Journal of Law, Politics, and Art, Edinburgh University Press and Amsterdam University Press.

Apart from subject- and skills-based instruction, I can also offer help with applications (including to university, school and scholarship programmes) and examination and interview preparation (including for Oxbridge, RG, Ivy League, LERU, and other competitive institutions), having had experience not only participating in the assessment of entrance examinations and interviews, but having had the entirety of my own studies fully funded through a number of academic awards (including studentships awarded by the Cambridge Trust, Le Bas Fund, and numerous others).

During these classes, I can help you to do the same!
This takes place through studying sounds, phonics, mouth placement, listening and lots and lots of practice. All classes are tailored to your own pronunciation and accent needs. Learning pronunciation is really fun and can even help you to sound better in your native tongue!

I have had great success with students in helping them to speak much clearer and more authentically. After a good amount of training, some students are even able to pass as native speakers!
Although I am a British English speaker, I do have knowledge of American English accents and can help you to develop a more 'international sound' which may be more suitable for your needs.

I currently have hours available for classes online due to COVID-19 restrictions. Working online via Zoom is great! We can use lots more media tools, focus directly on mouth formation and I have had lots of success with it.
