About Me

I am a multi-instrumentalist specialising in Contemporary Music Performance on a wide range of instruments. I started playing the Saxophone at the age of 7, followed by Guitar and Bass as a teenager – achieving a Merit in ABRSM Grade 8 on the Tenor Saxophone before leaving secondary school. I was accepted to the London Centre of Contemporary Music as a mature student in 2011, and have been working as a Musician and Educator throughout London since.

My particular interest is in Flow-state and Music Education, and techniques for developing mastery in an easy, fun and intuitive way. I have applied this approach to my own instrumental learning, spending upwards of 30,000 hours over the past decade practicing and now play and teach all the primary instrument groups in the Western Convention.

I love working with children and Adults alike, at any skill level and on any instrument. I try to understand my student’s entire perspective and experience of Music, and use my skills and experience to support them in the goal of attaining creative and technical freedom in their instrument and idiom of choice.

I’m a professional musician who studied on the highly regarded jazz course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance; whilst at Trinity I also studied Flute with members of some of London’s prestigious orchestras. I've performed all over London at well known venues like Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and The South Bank Centre but also played around in the city in jazz clubs like Kansas Smitty’s and Olivers. As well as performing in London I’ve played all around the UK and abroad at festivals such as the New Generations Festival in Florence (playing with American jazz artists such as Dominic Farinacci and Dan Tepfer). I’m also a highly experienced and regard teacher having taught all the way from university level to primary school. My teaching adapts to the pupil after we identify the areas we want to and wish to work on but also aspects of playing i think you need to improve or will be good to work on. I am a classically trained experienced musician with a strong background in orchestral performance, I started studying music since I was 5 years old. I have been teaching flute, saxophone, clarinet, piano, music theory and folk woodwinds for more than 15 years. I build lessons based on my students' needs and adapt the program to each individual, so together we can achieve great results and enjoy creating beautiful music.

Isaac is an award-winning clarinettist, teacher and arranger. He graduated with Distinction from the Royal College of Music as an HR Taylor Trust Scholar, studying Masters of Performance. In 2021, he graduated first class as a Bachelor of Music from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he won the college's Concerto Competition. He is originally from a small village in Northamptonshire.

At a young age, Isaac has a wealth of experience in teaching across all levels of education. He has managed his private studio for half a decade, whilst currently holding the position of woodwind tutor at West London Free School, previously Loughton Music Academy Trust and World Heart Beat Music Academy. Alongside working with RCM & RWCMD Juniors departments, and RCM Sparks programmes as workshop support staff, Isaac has worked with the outreach departments of the London Mozart Players, Neville Holt Opera and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He is also an ongoing self-employed tutor at BSharp Studios, Marie de Bry Arts Academy, Forte Lessons, Lycaeum Tutors, and London Music Tutors; he is also on the roster of the RCM Teaching Service. In 2022, his wind quintet, Ormonde Ensemble, won a place on the Wigmore Hall Chamber Tots Training and Development Scheme, a unique opportunity for musicians to develop their skills and experience as supporting musicians in early-year practice.

Isaac approaches teaching with a young, fresh mindset with a heavy focus on a strong musical foundation, problem-solving, practice “hacking”, determination and, above all, enjoyment. He has been commended for his relatability and calm, patient but efficient manner. He believes that the perfect teacher enables the pupil to become their own teacher! Being able to have clear direction and goals is of paramount importance. Also, having the capacity to ask “Why is this working/not working?” and having ideas on how to fix them is the fastest way to progress.

After studying performance psychology alongside his clarinet studies at RCM and during his exchange in Finland, Isaac is deeply passionate about how the mind affects how we play and practice. He draws mostly from academics such as Anders Ericsson and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and countless world-leading clarinet players whom he has been fortunate to learn from.

Being an active professional musician by trade means Isaac is always striving to be on the top of his playing, which bolsters teaching practices immensely, allowing lessons to be driven through first-hand and recent experiences. This facilitates constantly fresh ideas for his pupils to work on alongside regular fundamentals. Isaac works regularly as a guest with some of the top orchestras in the country, such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and London Mozart Players, among others. He has recently been appointed as one of the Philharmonia’s ‘MMSF Emerging Artists’ for the 2023/24 season.

Isaac’s rates factor in all the financial obligations of being self-employed, such as holiday pay, sick pay, pension contributions, familial leave, additional travel, increased preparation time or greater responsibility. Current inflation rates, including global food prices and transport costs, are also a continual factor in the fee. They also follow the recommended teaching rates for this location put forward by the Musician's Union, of which Isaac is a member. This is to avoid undercutting other tutors, whilst still wishing to provide affordable lessons.

Lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes: 30 minutes is ideal for young beginners, 45 for adult beginners and older pupils. 60 minutes for advanced players or those who wish to learn Music Theory in tandem.

I have access to many past papers. I have also created exercises to help my students. When a students stuggle with an exercise, I create exercises to help master it. Theory should be easy! I aim to have students take Grade 5 theory in 2 terms.

I have a Masters of Music from Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance (London), studying under Roger Chase, and a Masters in Fine Art from Gothenburg University (Sweden) with Øvyor Volle (Vertavo Quartet). I also studied in the USA at the Manhattan School of Music, New York, and Chicago College of Performing Arts.

I work as a professional viola player across the UK and Scandinavia, with such orchestras as Swedish Radio Orchestra, Stockholm Philharmonic, Bergen, Norwegian Radio, Gothenburg Symphony, Norrkoping Symphony, Jonkoping Sinfonietta, Aarhus Symphony, and English National Ballet Philharmonic. I am also a music arranger and transcriber.

I can give lessons once or twice a week. Please note that twice a week does allow for fast progression.

Although I live in Sweden, I only teach in English.

Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform confidently and interpret the music with ease. In preparing for a music theory exam you grasp the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody which is essential for good musicianship.

If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades.

My classes are for the beginner to intermediate level musicians and I will cover everything you need for music theory exams up to Grade 5 theory.

Evie studied music at university in London and has been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. She is interested in a broad range of music, which she hopes to share with students of all ages and abilities in their lessons. As a performer, Evie plays in various settings - folk, jazz, in bands, as well as more typical orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her own musical interest currently lies in folk, baroque music and improvisation.

Evie has been teaching a broad range of students for the last eight years: those who wish to take graded exams, those looking to explore folk and improvisation, expand their repertoire, or brush up on technique. She also currently teaches group violin classes at a primary school in London.

She has found that encouraging a structured and regular practice at home, if possible with the help of a parent or guardian, is the best way to reach goals and feel confident while playing. Most of all, she encourages students to be open-minded, inquisitive, and ready to listen to a variety of music! I strongly believe that people learn best when they enjoy what they’re doing, and I incorporate this into my teaching style. I strongly encourage my students to bring their own ideas and suggestions to the lessons; that way they can learn a piece of music that they really like. With a background in classical music, I underpin my lessons with useful technical exercises that encourage dexterity, time-keeping and fluency. Finally, I encourage all my students to learn at least the fundamentals of music theory and sight reading. Striking a healthy balance between diligent exercises, music theory and fun musical expression, my lessons allow students to explore their musicality on all fronts.

Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform confidently and interpret the music with ease. In preparing for a music theory exam you grasp the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody which is essential for good musicianship.

If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades.

My classes are for the beginner to intermediate level musicians and I will cover everything you need for music theory exams up to Grade 5 theory.

Evie studied music at university in London and has been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. She is interested in a broad range of music, which she hopes to share with students of all ages and abilities in their lessons. As a performer, Evie plays in various settings - folk, jazz, in bands, as well as more typical orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her own musical interest currently lies in folk, baroque music and improvisation.

Evie has been teaching a broad range of students for the last eight years: those who wish to take graded exams, those looking to explore folk and improvisation, expand their repertoire, or brush up on technique. She also currently teaches group violin classes at a primary school in London.

She has found that encouraging a structured and regular practice at home, if possible with the help of a parent or guardian, is the best way to reach goals and feel confident while playing. Most of all, she encourages students to be open-minded, inquisitive, and ready to listen to a variety of music! Evie is always ready to cater specifically to the needs and interests of the student, and to create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. In lessons, she will cover sight-reading, exam preparation, music theory, focused technique, improvisation, standard repertoire, and any music the student may wish to explore on their instrument.
