About Me
Hanna is a talented and innovative Belgian harpist and multidisciplinary artist. In June 2025, she obtained her Master's degree in Classical Music with great distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, where she studied with Miriam Overlach and Mathilde Wauters. From a classical foundation, she developed into a versatile musician with a distinct love for improvisation, composition, interdisciplinary art, and pushing the traditional boundaries of her instrument. She experiments with new techniques, sound possibilities, and performance formats, constantly seeking ways to give the harp a contemporary, relevant voice.
From a young age, Hanna has been active in various disciplines. In addition to her classical training, she studied dance, jazz piano, theater production, drama, cabaret, composition, and improvisation. This broad artistic background forms the foundation of her unique artistic signature today. In recent years, she has performed three times in the youth operas of Muziektheater Transparant at deSingel, and in 2023 she appeared in the BlackBox performance at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSKA). In 2024, she shared the stage with the Scandinavian jazz orchestra Fire! Orchestra. She collaborated with artist Emilia Schupp of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and explored a performative experiment involving "viewpoints" with dancers and actors. In the past year, she has performed at venues including the Arte Amanti Festival, Fold Me at the Hasselt Fashion Museum, and De Klap in Deurne. In 2025 she will be working on new concerts for which she will write her own compositions and improvisations, including at Klankhaven, CORSO, Sound of c festival and more.
For Hanna, the harp is more than just an instrument with a rich history; it's an infinite universe of sound that can sound clear and magical, mysterious, raw, or dark. This versatility inspires her to explore new possibilities, both within the existing repertoire and in her own work. She admires the classical tradition but feels a strong urge to forge her own path and create space for new forms, new sounds, and new connections. In doing so, she seeks dialogue with other disciplines and with social issues.
At age seven, Hanna already dreamed of creating her own music and performances. Today, she embodies that dream in an artistic practice where music, movement, text, and image intertwine. For her master's thesis, she created her debut musical theater performance, The Inner Black Box, in collaboration with Muziektheater Transparant. For this interdisciplinary work, which combines her passion for art and social issues, she received the highest distinction.
Hanna's social mission is inspired by the philosophy and words of psychiatrist Dirk De Wachter. She believes in the healing power of art, especially in a society where vulnerability, grief, and silence are often denied space. For her, art is a shared language, a place where the invisible can exist.
The harp is my tool for expressing universal emotions and connecting with people from diverse audiences, in diverse settings. It's not just about my role as a performing musician; the music and the power of art are central. It's my calling to share my passion for music with others through my instrument.
