Growing up in Mozambique, I didn't have access to tutors, so out of necessity, I took the initiative to form a study group with my peers. This experience helped me develop strong teaching skills and a deep understanding of the curriculum.

I specialize in teaching Biology and Geography at both standard and high levels, as well as Portuguese language instruction for MYP and IB students or language learners. My teaching methodology involves a comprehensive approach to learning, where I explain concepts in detail and encourage students to ask questions and actively participate in the learning process. I believe that everyone has the potential to succeed and I am committed to helping my students reach their full potential.

About Me

I am a easy going person that has a passion for sciences, especially biology and physical geography.
I did the MYP and IB programs at AISM in Mozambique where I graduated with the IB Bilingual Diploma.
I moved to The Netherlands to study Environmental Sustainability and Conservation and Energy and Resource Management at Leiden University in The Hague.
During my schooling years, I have both been an average student to becoming one of the top of the class. This happened mainly because of the teachers I had and so I understand the importance of a good teacher that is able to explain concepts through different angles in order to target everyone's learning methods and abilities.
I want to help students because I didn't have this help and I know I would have truly benefited from it.

Oi Tudo bem? My name is Marcelo and I am from São Paulo.

I teach Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese in The Hague and Rotterdam. Fortunately, I can combine my university studies and 23 years of practical teaching experience in such a way that the lessons are well-founded and stimulating.

I have lived and studied in Brazil and Portugal (Coimbra), so I am a native speaker, with a lot of knowledge of the associated culture. By twist of fate, I am also bilingual, so I can explain grammar in Dutch and vice versa. My training is focused on speaking skills.

For years I also gave business training at two very well-known language schools, so I know how to transfer a lot of knowledge in a short time. As a student you will feel this immediately from the first lesson.

Learning Portuguese for business or urgently (within 10 working days) is also possible. I have a Chamber of Commerce and VAT number.

I have a lot of experience teaching lessons via Teams of Whereby (Whereby is more professional and European), even before the crisis because I also teach students in other countries.

For virtual lessons, you will receive a transcript of the lesson by email after the lesson. Classes at my home are also possible with 6 feet of distance and good circulation.

My lessons are very structured and step by step. In addition, I always explain the 'why' of a grammatical topic, which creates a link that also works better for memory and makes the lesson more interesting.

Because I am so results-oriented, I try to gently guide trainees up the stairs to full speaking skills and my job is to make the lessons as educational and attractive as possible.

There are currently 230 million portuguese speakers in the world and you can become one! Portuguese is sometimes tricky but you can learn it in a fun way. I am currently a third year student in pre-med at Erasmus University College, and a second year in mechanical engineering at TU Delft. I am proficient in teaching in English and can explain stuff in Dutch, but at a slightly slower pace as it is my second language. I can essentially tutor all STEM subjects with a week's notice due to my coursework in almost all field but here is a list I am most comfortable with: Mathematics, Physics, Biology (not plant biology), Chemistry, Computer science (Matlab and Python), principles of engineering design (including SolidWorks) and Economics. My previous experience with teaching is both at a university level as an education and research assistant for Behavioural Economics, and as a part-time high school teacher for biology and Mathematics.

In class, we will cover all subjects related to biology and medicine that the student wants and considers important. This is of course often about the material that is tested at school, but if there is a need for my knowledge in the medical/medical field, I can also put together challenging lessons for that.
