Private Piano Lessons: Improvisation, Music Theory | Flexible, creative instruction based on your interests and goals
From 111.57 C$ /h
Whether you’re interested in learning how to express yourself musically, play covers of your favorite songs, perform classical music or write your own songs - I’d love to work with you in your journey towards musical proficiency.
I approach teaching music like a language, with an emphasis on understanding what music communicates beyond the notes and rhythms. I work with each student to develop the technical and mental skills necessary to express themselves articulately, along with a theoretical understanding of how meaning is created through music. Private lessons are designed around each student’s interests and goals. For some this looks like a more traditional method of learning the piano; for others, a free-form improvisation and theory-based approach.
My desire is to help you find musical fluency whether you like to play others' music or your own, whether you read music or prefer to play by ear. There are an infinite number of ways to create music — I want to help you progress in the way that feels most natural to you.

About Me
Hi, I'm Hannah! I'm a classically-trained pianist, composer, and music teacher dedicated to discovering and creating meaning through music and helping others do the same. I'm currently based in Mexico City, and enjoy working with students across the world to develop their technical skills on the keyboard along with their own creative voice.
My own solo piano music blends influences from my classical training, new age and contemporary styles, early exposures to sacred music, and other genres such as anime and folk music. I believe music is best understood and experienced as a language. As such, I have a special love for live improvisation: the act of creating, or "speaking," something true to yourself and your experience in the present moment, without preparation.
In my private lessons, I seek to integrate my understanding of the Western musical system with more intuitive methods of approaching music. My interests include philosophy, psychology, spirituality, sociology, plant medicine, religion, and creative expression. I'm particularly fascinated by the intersection of science, philosophy, and music, and how it can present new ways of understanding and teaching music.
I enjoy deep conversations, traveling, experiencing new cultures, and learning from others' experiences and perspectives of the world. I'm constantly seeking to find new ways of understanding and exploring the language of music, both in a technical and philosophical way. I'm passionate about using this knowledge to deepen the degree of meaning in my own work, as well as to better educate others towards their fullest potential for musical self-expression.
