Are you struggling with mathematics, physics or chemistry? Or do you want to improve your grades and gain confidence before an exam?

I offer personalized tutoring for students of all levels. My focus is not simply solving exercises together, but helping students truly understand concepts and develop problem-solving skills they can apply independently.

Every lesson is adapted to the student’s individual needs, learning style and goals. Whether you need help with homework, exam preparation, difficult topics or long-term academic improvement, lessons are tailored specifically to you.

I can help with:

• Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Functions, Trigonometry, Statistics, Probability and more)
• Physics (Mechanics, Electricity, Energy, Forces, Optics and more)
• Chemistry and other science subjects
• Exam preparation and study strategies
• Homework support and problem solving
• Learning techniques and efficient study methods

Unlike many tutors, I can also create personalised learning resources tailored to each student. These may include summaries, cheat sheets, learning cards, study plans, practice exercises and exam preparation materials designed around your current knowledge and learning objectives.

My goal is not only to help students pass exams, but to build confidence, independence and a genuine understanding of the subject.

About Me
Hello, I’m Joel.

I have been tutoring mathematics, physics and other subjects since the age of 12. From an early age, I discovered that I not only enjoy learning complex topics myself, but also helping others understand them.

My teaching philosophy is simple:

Understanding beats memorization.

Rather than teaching students how to solve a specific exercise, I focus on helping them understand why a solution works. This enables students to think independently and solve new problems with confidence.

Every student learns differently. That’s why I adapt every lesson to the student’s current level, goals and individual learning style.

In addition to tutoring sessions, I create personalized learning materials such as summaries, cheat sheets, study cards, exercise collections, learning plans and complete exam preparation dossiers. These resources are tailored to the student’s prior knowledge, learning objectives and upcoming exams.

Alongside tutoring, I have been programming since the age of 8 and have spent many years studying mathematics, logic, science and problem-solving. This background allows me to explain concepts from different perspectives and adapt my explanations to different types of learners.

My goal is not only to improve grades, but also to build confidence, independence and a genuine understanding of the subject.

I am an experienced and certified mathematics tutor specializing in a range of curriculums, including AS and A-Levels, IGCSE, GCSE, SATs, Edexcel, and the International Baccalaureate (IB). With a proven track record of guiding students to success in these rigorous exams, I understand the unique challenges each curriculum presents. My approach is designed to meet each student's individual needs and learning style, ensuring that they receive the tailored support necessary to excel.

Mathematics can often seem daunting, but my goal is to help students build a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. I believe that a solid foundation in the basics is crucial, and I work to ensure that students grasp fundamental principles before moving on to more complex topics. This method not only boosts their confidence but also prepares them for advanced problem-solving scenarios. I utilize a variety of teaching methods, from visual aids to interactive exercises, to cater to different learning styles and make the subject more relatable.

In my sessions, I focus on developing effective problem-solving strategies. I guide students through step-by-step processes for tackling various types of mathematical problems, helping them to analyze questions critically and approach solutions systematically. This analytical skill is invaluable, not just for exams, but for future academic pursuits and real-world applications. I encourage students to ask questions and engage in discussions, as this fosters a deeper understanding of the material.

I also recognize that exam preparation involves more than just understanding the content; it requires familiarity with the exam format and types of questions they will encounter. I provide targeted practice using past papers and mock exams, which allows students to hone their test-taking skills and time management. This practice is essential for building the resilience and confidence needed to perform well under exam conditions.

Whether you're looking for support with fundamental concepts or advanced topics, I am here to provide clear explanations and structured guidance. My lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive, ensuring that students remain motivated and focused. I believe that learning should be a positive experience, and I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing their concerns and challenges.

Throughout my tutoring career, I have seen firsthand the transformative impact of personalized education. Many of my students have achieved outstanding results, including high grades and scholarships, thanks to the tailored support I provide. I take immense pride in their accomplishments, and my dedication to their success is unwavering.

In addition to my expertise in mathematics, I emphasize the importance of a growth mindset. I encourage students to view challenges as opportunities for learning and growth. This perspective not only helps them in their studies but also equips them with resilience that will serve them well in all areas of life.

If you're looking for expert tutoring that delivers outstanding results, I invite you to book a lesson today. Together, we can embark on a journey toward academic excellence in mathematics. I am committed to helping you achieve your goals and unlock your full potential. Don't hesitate to reach out; I am here to support you every step of the way!

My name is Valentin and I have a master's degree in Physics from ENS Lyon. In 2017 I became the youngest medalist at the International Physics Olympiad. Currently I am doing my doctoral studies in Basel. My scientific approach favors above all the in-depth understanding of concepts rather than the simple learning of the laws of physics by heart. I have experience solving very complex problems in physics and mathematics, where just knowing the formulas is not enough. It is by grasping the deeper meaning of these formulas that we can effectively apply them in a broader context and thus facilitate the search for solutions.

I start by doing a short assessment of the student's level, followed by identifying their main difficulties in the subject. Then I explain difficult concepts in detail and show how I would approach different problems through concrete examples. I'll break down complex formulas into simpler pieces to explain what they mean, rather than just memorizing them. Additionally, I will try to make the topic more interesting and interactive, referencing real-world examples and experiences, wherever applicable.

I offer courses for students of all levels, up to the third year of university in physics and the second year in mathematics. I have several years of teaching experience and my students have been able to do well in their exams. I can give my classes in the evening in Basel, or in neighboring cities as long as they are accessible by train and less than an hour by train, such as Bern or Zurich.
