About Me
My name is Yasser Parra, and I am a multilingual professional with a strong background in International Relations, Data Analytics, and Community Engagement. Born in Mexico and raised in California, I have always been deeply passionate about building bridges across cultures, languages, and sectors. My academic journey and professional experiences have been rooted in a desire to contribute meaningfully to global understanding, social equity, and technological innovation.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from California State University, Sacramento, and studied Political Science at Diablo Valley College. During my undergraduate years, I immersed myself in global affairs, diplomacy, and policy research, gaining critical thinking skills that I have applied in a variety of roles. I’ve interned with the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, where I collaborated with diplomats, consuls, and community organizations to coordinate events, translate materials, and support legal and educational initiatives aimed at serving Mexican and Latino communities. These experiences deepened my understanding of international cooperation and the importance of multilingual, culturally competent communication.
Alongside my interest in diplomacy and policy, I have developed a strong foundation in technology and data analytics. I recently completed a 16-week apprenticeship focused on SQL, Python, Excel, Tableau, and BigQuery, where I worked on real-world projects such as cleaning 10 years of film industry data and creating visual dashboards to uncover insights. With over 200 hours of training from industry professionals, I have grown confident in applying data-driven solutions to complex challenges. I’ve also collaborated with peers using tools like Slack, Google Workspace, and project management systems, enhancing both technical and soft skills in a remote work setting.
I am fluent in both English and Spanish, conversational in Portuguese, and currently learning French. My multilingual abilities have been vital in professional settings—whether assisting Spanish-speaking families during my time with AmeriCorps or translating diplomatic documents at the consulate. I believe that language is a powerful tool for inclusion and trust-building, especially in multicultural environments. These skills allow me to connect with people from various backgrounds, adapt quickly, and communicate clearly in both personal and professional contexts.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. I’ve served as a mandated reporter and community liaison in Sacramento County, managed retail teams in fast-paced environments, and collaborated with government officials to foster civic engagement and education access. Across each of these roles, I’ve remained committed to continuous learning, service, and impact.
At the intersection of global affairs, data, and community, I thrive. I’m passionate about using my skills to support organizations that prioritize innovation, accessibility, and collaboration. Whether it’s improving communication tools, analyzing data for better decision-making, or supporting underserved communities, I bring empathy, precision, and a global mindset to every opportunity. I’m eager to continue growing in roles that challenge me and contribute to meaningful change—locally and globally.
