I'm an experienced educator from the UK, who has worked for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain as an Associate Educator, and for the prestigious Rhythm Studio in West London. I've performed all over Europe, as well as in Havana, Cuba and in the Dubai Opera House. I graduated with 1st Class Honours from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015, and am currently studying a Jazz Drums masters at the CvA in Amsterdam. About Me

Rod is a British Jazz Musician whose versatility takes him from an intimate jazz club setting or recording studio to the large festival stage. He has played at some of the UK’s leading music venues, in London’s West End, as well as to international audiences.

Rod received tuition from both the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music (First Class Honours degree) leading to performance opportunities alongside jazz greats including Kenny Wheeler, Dave Cliff, Norma Winstone, Soweto Kinch and Mike Stern. He studied with Martin France (Spin Marvel), James Maddren (Kit Downes Trio) and Jeff Williams (Jeff Williams Quartet).

Rod is endorsed by Bosphorous Cymbals, Ludwig Drums and also by D'Addario, the world's premier manufacturer of various instrument accessories, including Evans Drumheads and Promark Drumsticks.

I am Keith, a Hong Kong percussionist based in Amsterdam and currently finishing my master degree in the Conservatory van Amsterdam. I have won several major international competitions and have great experience in performing. I have also taught privately and conducted masterclasses to inspire the next generation of percussionists.
The best thing of being a percussionist is that you can play and find music anytime anywhere! Whether if it's a timpani or your comb, you can produce so many different sounds and exciting rhythm. With one technique, you can almost play anything!
If you are a total beginner with music, percussion is one of the easiest way into it. Instruments sound nice already when you play them. Lessons start from knowing the pulse and developing your groove, to knowing the notes and establishing basic musicality. Then slowly you will explore the vast sound world of percussion, starting with drums, mallets instrument or any objects that you can think of!
If you are looking for more help in excelling in your craft, my professional experience can offer you great guidance and advice, no matter if it's technically or artistically, or even stage presence and healthy mindset.
My ultimate goal in teaching is to motivate my students to find joy and confidence through music. I will offer you a clear structure so that you will understand better how to reach your goal, and a supportive learning environment so that you can explore your potential!
Here are some Q&A to know more about myself!

Q: What other instruments except drumset can I learn from percussion?
A: With similar technique, you can play mallets instruments like marimba which has a warm healing sound, or orchestral instruments like triangle or tambourine. And with the rhythmic sense from learning drum set, you can literally play groove in the world, no matter if it is latin or asian or middle east! The sky is the limit!

Q: What do you value the most in your lesson?
A: Sincerity and curiosity. I hope we can have honest communication and I can offer you new inspiration every lessons.

Q: How do you keep your lessons engaging and fun?
A: It all starts with your own interest and passion. If you have a specific genre or instrument that you like, we will build your musical sense from there, even if it's death metal or jazz. I will offer you different kinds of exercises and ideas until you own the skill.

In this course you will learn techniques, patterns, phrasings and drum vocabulary to be able to play whatever interests you. This course is not limited to any specific level. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced, this course will focus on your personal interests as a musician. We will explore the instrument from a contemporary perspective based on tradition in order to not only survive in any musical context, but also exceed expectations. We will work together to develop all aspects of a good contemporary drummer: technique, control, coordination, independence, creativity and expression. As a teacher and student, I can assure you that the development of a musician is not only born from training and theory, but also from the enjoyment of playing the instrument, so in this course you will have 50% technical work and 50% development of skills. repertoire (songs you want to play).

I offer tools for my students to develop a strong rhythmic sense, good listening skills and knowledge of basic score reading. I enjoy developing a student/teacher relationship where students can feel comfortable playing the instrument and have joy in the process. In each individual situation, I shape my teaching to best serve the needs of the pupil, will that be following a method and going every step by the book, or take a favorite song into consideration and from there build up a workable strategy.
