About Me
With over 10 years of teaching experience, it remains one of the most fulfilling pursuits for me, alongside my passion for my own pop-project, Malu and performing jazz live.My aim is for each student to leave every lesson with the sense of having spent a personal, unique, and, above all, extraordinarily informative hour in a warm atmosphere.
My musical journey began with classical piano and as a soprano in a professional children's choir. However, I quickly developed a love for contemporary music and crafting my own songs. After establishing a strong foundation in classical music, I delved into the realms of jazz and pop-songwriting.
During my studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, I unearthed my true groove as a pop musician. Consequently, I honed my distinctive sound, and to this day, it stands as the hallmark of my identity as a musician.
LITTLE NOTE: I teach in Amsterdam, also on location, but depending on the spot and time I have to travel the price may vary.

Great teacher, fun to work with and tailors really well to your needs
Lucy is a good teacher who really listens to your wishes. The lesson is fun and educational. Nice to work with.

Marloes is clearly a music professional (listen to Malu and judge for yourself!), but she also knows very well how to get other people's voices to work. I came with a long story and a vague idea of what I wanted, but Marloes knew exactly what I needed and was able to come up with the right exercises on the spot. She is positive and relaxed, but also keen on what can be improved. I'm looking forward to the next lesson!

Marloes is a great teacher, she’s very encouraging, and really patient when explaining stuff like breathwork and thin vocal cords and thick vocal cords. She’s very positive and gives good advice to improve my singing.
Marloes does an excellent job of understanding the student's needs and goals. Always attentive during the lessons, she provides clear/targeted feedback on areas of improvement and actively listens to your singing. Most importantly, she creates a comfortable/safe environment to experiment with your voice.
As a beginner in singing, I highly recommend anyone who wants to get started singing to take lessons with her!

Piano, improvisation class, and music production in Amsterdam
From my studio at the Berlagebrug, I give Piano lessons to beginners and (semi) advanced students. The lessons take place on a Yamaha wing and when a piece is well under control, we can make a professional recording of it.
I graduated in 1992 as a musician from the Hilversum Conservatory (nowadays Conservatory of Amsterdam) in the direction of light music, or jazz and pop. So with me, you learn not only to read notes but also chord schemes and - if you want - improvisation. Or we search together for a song that you would like to play and make a nice adaptation of it. Together we first look at exactly what you want to learn and align the curriculum.
I can also help you learn how to compose and produce. I work with Pro Tools and Logic Pro X.
For classical Piano lessons, I would rather refer you to someone else.
Learn Guitar (Pop, Jazz, Funk) and music in general :)
In this class, we will be exploring music by learning your favorite songs from any genre you enjoy. I will personalize the lessons to your needs and make sure we cover all the fundamentals that will set you on the right track!
I will teach you how to:
- learn songs by ear, (pop, jazz r&b, funk, fusion, hip-hop, and whatever you like honestly)
- improvise,
- compose,
- understand music theory (harmony, rhythm, scales, progressions, sight-reading etc.)
- produce and sound design in any DAW
About me:
Education:
I started playing music at 7 years old, went through 12 years of music school, and then moved to Amsterdam and spent 4 years learning jazz guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I frequently play with various bands ranging from Pop and Funk to Jazz Fusion and even Techno.
Teaching style:
I’m open-minded and straightforward, and I focus on giving my students the tools and basics they need to learn and explore on their own.
Music Production Lessons (Composing, Producing, Mixing)
I am a film composer with experience working on Netflix and over 40 other film and TV productions. My lessons are tailored to meet your experience level and interests, suitable for all skill levels.
I can help you create your own music and teach you how to produce and mix it yourself. Additionally, I offer instruction in music theory, ear training, and improvisation.
I teach at my own studio in Amsterdam
Drum lessons (individual, ensemble playing, ear training, theory and more!)
The drumset is one of the most important and powerful instruments in a music ensemble. It does not only provide the rhythm and groove foundation for all the other instruments - it also defines the sound of the band, the character of the songs, the volume... just like an orchestra conductor.
In these lessons (which are of course personalized and open depending on the interests of the student) we will work beyond the physical/mechanical aspect of the drums (technique, coordination, etc) into the musical aspect, so we will spend some time listening and analyzing music together, working on ear training and music theory from a practical point of view.
Learn How to Make Your Own Music: Saxophone, Improvisation, Ableton Live.
Music is a great way to express yourself and your feelings, it is an amazing tool to learn about your personality. As an art form, music has been around with us from ancient times.
As a musician, you'll need to be able to know music theory and acquire technique. Through years of teaching I've developed a method of learning music in a practical and structured way, keeping the joy of making music as a main focus, as well as providing with all the necessary theoretical background.
I teach music to all ages: my students currently are from 5 to 81 years old.
And all levels: I have an individual approach for every student.
You will learn how to play music, listen to music, compose your own music and more!
Usually, my students are able to make music within a first week of learning and I have a lot of positive feedbacks and reviews from them!
My lessons are: saxophone, improvisation, composition, Ableton Live, artist development.
Learn MUSIC PRODUCTION in a professional studio: Including composition, arrangement, performance, recording, mixing and mastering.
The basic course takes you through all the elements you need to professionally write and produce music; with specialties ranging from record production to writing for media i.e. T.V and film.
Learn all the pitfalls and save yourself years of pain! :)
Skills I take you through are:
1. Music finishing; e.g. lyrics, arrangements, programming drums and synth parts.
2. Performance and recording techniques - setting up microphones, and hands on exploring the different types and 'colours' they record.
How to record real synths and find the correct sounds for your music.
Re-amping guitars and anything else to give your music more life!
3. Mixing; Using Pro Tools HD, Logic and Ableton, an SSL mixer with lots of classic 'outboard' equipment as well as the latest plugins on board the computer.
4. Mastering; The final stage of releasing music is making it sounds amazing on all systems.
A course is tailor-made to suit the desire of the student - from recording and releasing your own music, to film audio post-production and sound design and everything else in-between.
I have more than 30 years in the music industry, previously working at BBC Radio 1/1xtra station, and also at Jools Holland's Helicon Mountain studios in West London.
I am eager to share what I have learnt over the years in a really friendly environment - it's perfect to take home all the knowledge you need to write from anywhere in the coming years.

Musical Composition for all Levels with a Composer-Conductor
Are you stuck? I can help!
In our composition lessons, we’ll both learn how to get more from basic elements, like pitch and rhythm, and also the things we can do to help make a composition more poetic. We can work on how to get more music from fewer ideas to create a consistent musical language, and also explore the idea of opposites in your compositions, blending and smearing contrasting elements to add depth and complexity to your work.
Through the analysis of great music, the composition of miniatures, and feedback on your current projects, you’ll both increase your technical fluency and simultaneously learn to love and develop your unique voice. This class is for any level of composer, whether you're a beginner or an experienced composer seeking to enhance your creative skills. Don't wait any longer :)
Improvisation for beginners and intermediates (any instrument)
Would you classify improvisation as composition or performance? Well actually it is both! When you improvise you are composing music on the spot, performing what you have made up at the same time as you have composed it.
For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease.
The key to success is understanding chords. Once you know how chords are formed and know what notes make up a few chords you will be well on your way towards being able to improvise. We will, therefore, start by ensuring a firm knowledge of certain chords. After this we will progress to improvising a simple melody over the top of these chords. The next stage is to start using notes that are not in the chord. The process is then open ended with emphasis on developing the melody.
If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session.
Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.

Learn Piano and Improvisation and practice other languages :)
The most important matter that I could write here about is my passion to teach. I've been teaching already for more than 10 years, from kids to adults. I'm a classical pianist, but I am opened to other musical styles. What I want you to get from your lessons with me, is not only a huge knowledge of theorical stuff or a great technique, I would like to show you my musical world, the imagination and inner exploration that is required to understand and to love music in a whole new level. Once you have found them, it will be very hard to quit playing!
The class duration: You can choose!
20 minutes (Great for the youngest : 3 years old)
30 minutes (Ideal for young beginners from 4 years old)
45 minutes (Intermediate+ adult beginners)
1 hour (Intermediate and combined with some Music Theory)
I use different methods depending on:
1) The goals of my student
2) The language that we will use on class
3) Age and musical preferences: I start to teach children from 3 years old, we make games and they learn to play through musical stories that I have created throughout my pedagogical career.
