I can teach you any DAW you want to learn, including Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Cubase, Garageband, and Logic Pro, in easy to understand, simple steps. I know that when you open recording software for the first time, it can feel like looking at the controls for a spaceship; how can you ever hope to understand all these numbers, colors and controls?? It feels overwhelming. Don't worry though, it's not as hard as it looks! In fact, it's so intuitive that I guarantee you will engineer your first drum track the very first time we work together!!

I want to base my lessons on playing the guitar and related instruments in a way that feels mastered and personal.

I therefore want to focus on expression, technique and the aurally malleable nature of the instrument, for example by discussing extended techniques and the use of effect pedals. I want to invite the students to learn to listen carefully to the impact of different playing techniques and audio effects.

During the lessons I want to cover different kinds of music theory, especially in an "applied" way that is valuable to the student. I also want to deal with recording and producing my own work.

Owning your own effects pedals, a guitar amplifier or recording equipment is not required for this course.

Read, understand and make only the music you like. I think if it isn't fun, it can't be music:)

I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music. It's longer than 9 years now!
Most of my students learn piano. With the starter ones, I use my own system to equally help them grow all the needed skills: body consciousness (to avoid lesions or bad habits), music theory (including writing and reading) and improvisation.
Usually most songs are made of melody, chords and rhythm. From there, I can help you understand how a song works, how is it written, how does it translate to the piano... and voilá! You'll know the song by heart, and will be able to play it a bit different every time, because you won't be following a set of pre-imposed instructions. You will understand how a small system (a song) works.
This way of learning can be applied to any song, from any century or style. Understanding is key! Play Chopin, write rock songs, play Monk, Bill Evans, the Beatles, make a lo-fi beat, play Beethoven, play the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars, play video game music, play salsa! bachata and make people dance, laugh or cry.
Music is very powerful!

PD: I have also experience imparting electronic music lessons in Ableton Live and Max MSP, which is now a very important part of my professional practice. Hey! My name is Daan and I am a keyboard player, producer and songwriter and I am happy to teach piano at your home in Amsterdam.

I graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam pop department and am also very active in bands (as a keyboardist, singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer) and as a producer/songwriter in various genres.

As a teacher, I am mainly concerned with what the student wants to achieve and what can be gotten out of the student. Do you want to learn that one new song by Billie Eilish, or an advanced piece by Stevie Wonder; I can always help you. Synthesizers and electronics music production methods have been popular for long time, but many composers have tools which they may underuse due there being so many options and perhaps not knowing which tools are best for your needs.

I have been creating sounds with synthesizers, samplers, drum machines and computers since I was a teenager, and it would be a pleasure to share this passion with you. I have analogue and digital modular synthesizers which I can help you master, as well as more traditional hardware synths. We can also explore the possibilities of using software plugins in a DAW.
