My name is Miki, and I’m a 29-year-old Japanese woman living in Amsterdam. I was born in Tokyo and soon after moved to the US, growing up in cities like Boston, Chicago, Singapore, Austin, and Tokyo. This diverse background has given me a unique perspective on language and culture, which I bring into my teaching.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Law and Politics from Keio University in Tokyo. During my university days, I developed a genuine interest in traveling the world and backpacked through South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. If you’re also a traveler, we can share a lot about our experiences during lessons, making learning Japanese even more engaging and fun.

Professionally, I’ve pursued a career in banking, advertising, and a food-tech start-up. Now in Amsterdam, I work as a Wagashi (Japanese confectionery) professional, striving to spread the beauty of this traditional art. Additionally, I have experience working as an interpreter, which has honed my language skills further.

It would be a great pleasure to share my language and culture with you!

The classes are semi-structured and can be scheduled flexibly, depending how you would like to study.

The aim of the class is to be able to speak and understand the language in an intuitive manner. In the lessons we therefore mainly focus on conversational training. I also provide some (home) excises and practice it together.

We can focus on different aspects of Japanese - both language and culture -depending on your preference. Culture is important because in Japanese, the way how you speak is just as important as what you actually say.

During the lesson we will handle a variety of subjects, practice vocabulary and pronunciation as well as deal with both intermediate and advanced issues with grammar and expressions in an interactive and engaging way.

Along the way I hope you will come to like Japan even more than before!

One of the fastest way to learn a language is to practice the speaking. In this class you will be focusing on how to talk about different topics in beginner or intermediate levels. Themes range from daily conversations, getting-around, travelling, lifestyle to news.
Both formal or informal speaking skills will also be covered according to your needs.
Aside from interactive conversations, a part of the class will be focusing on grammar and vocabulary improvements. Pronunciations and sentence structures will also be focused on.
The content of the classes can also be tailored according to your learning goals and expectations.

I have lived in Japan for whole life and just moved to Amsterdam. I will teach Japanese by talking about what students are interested about Japan.
I watch a lot of TV shows, dramas and movies, but some anime.
I am a student now so I can only teach from 2 pm, but other than that, I am pretty flexible with schedule.
