Hello, I am a French graphic designer giving flexible French lessons to all levels and all goals! I have a background in art and literature and therefore would be interested in taking the lessons to another context than the academic one. I already have previous experience in teaching French and would be pleased again to share my culture and language.
I can give adapted lessons from complete beginners to advanced ones! According to the student's wishes, the lessons can be focused on the preferred aspects (Conversation, vocabulary, grammar, writing, formal writing, etc.)

About Me

My name is Kimberley and I have been living in Amsterdam since 2015. I grew up around Paris where I studied art and design until I moved here to continue my education at the Rietveld Academie, and at the Piet Zwart Institute. I sometimes like to go back to France only to remember the taste of a real croissant but I am mainly established here now.

Education

I have a Baccalaureate specialised in literature and arts. I studied product design (ENSA Nancy, Design Academy Eindhoven), graphic design (Rietveld Academie), and experimental publishing (Piet Zwart Institute).

Experience / Qualifications

I started teaching French to a Hong-Konguese young man, weekly, for a year, before he moved to France. I then took on more students on board, mostly native English, young adults and teens. I also have experience teaching young children through games in a French association! I enjoy teaching very much and always try to find a way to adapt to the student's personal interests.

My belief is that each student is different and requires a tailor made lesson to meet that student’s needs and goals. Every class is personalised for your own profile and is adapted as needed. I give priority to conversation, convinced that even from the very first day, one can start to communicate in the new language and thus gain confidence to go on.

I base my courses on the four essential competencies: speaking, listening, writing and reading, always focusing on your personal goals and motivation. I progressively integrate phonetics, grammar, conjugation, vocabulary in the courses which always include practical exercises. You will also learn a lot about the culture as it is deeply linked to the language.

The pedagogic materials I choose are mostly created for native speakers : texts from literature, newspapers, radio podcasts, videos, songs.... Indeed, I am convinced that the learning process has to tackle « real subjects », as languages are alive and constantly changing. My main challenge is to help the learners to be able to « think » in the second language. The debate is the heart of my classroom, but always in a playful way, through many role games — for me learning a language is first and foremost a great joy !

Who? I am a twenty-eight-year-old French and U.S. Anthropology student. I am trained in FLE (French as a Second Language) and have worked for the National French Education Ministry as a Middle School Teacher on the beautiful island of Mayotte. Following that exotic experience, I decided to change course and study Anthropology all the while teaching French as a Second Language on a freelance basis.
