I am a native Chinese speaker. I am also good at Chinese calligraphy. I grew up in Shanghai, I also speak really good Shanghainese which is a Shanghai local language. From basic knowledge about Chinese history and culture to the wisdom of ancient Chinese. I specialise in teaching Chinese and Japanese to students of all ages and abilities. For both of these languages, my pronunciation, grammar and fluency are at a near native level, and my students benefit from my ability to explain concepts in English.

I am a creative teacher, however I do not shy away from traditional approaches to teaching, and as a teacher of languages, I particularly enjoy teaching grammar and pronunciation and have developed a thorough approach to each of these, along with all other aspects of language-learning. I have considerable experience devising and implementing my own syllabi (something I also greatly enjoy!) to cater for the diverse needs of my students - particularly younger learners.

The exact format for my classes therefore differs from student to student: some prefer to focus solely on speaking and listening; others (schoolchildren for instance) study more writing and translation. A typical syllabus followed could include the following on a weekly or fortnightly basis:

pronunciation training; writing practice; focussed work on grammar and grammatical structures; reading exercises; conversational role-play; vocabulary testing; essays on history and culture

1. Who am I?
My name is Xiaolin(小林) which means little forest. I'm not only a native Chinese speaker but also my major is Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. I worked as a university lecturer in China and was depatured by the Ministry of Education of China to Europe to teach Chinese in the university. So far, I've been teaching Chinese to foreigners of all ages for around 12 years both at the school or as a tutor.

2. What kind of course do I offer?
As Confucius said "因材施教” which means " teaching students in accordance of their aptitude". I'll customize the courses and according to your learning target and your nature. 3. What about my former students?
I still keep in touch with most of my former students. Some work for Chinese companies or Chinese related organizations, some work as interpreters and a student openned an English school in China to teach Chinese kids English.
A young boy I started to tutor him when he was 2, now can comunicate with Chinese people spontaneously after 2 years learning. An adult student moved to Shanghai to live with his Chinese girlfriend( they got married last year in Otc.) and another 22 years old boy got to Chengdu to study in Sichuan university majoring in international trade. Too many stories to tell...

Hi, I'm Leyi. Born and grow up in mainland China, but I have been moving around the world. I have been teaching Mandarin for six years, and I started teaching Mandarin Chinese when I was in high school to kindergarteners/grade-school students/adults in the US. I am chatty, effective, and patient, so most of my students like me (or I think so? hahaha). Because I have experience with linguistics as a subject and was exposed to many languages while growing up, I like to use students' first and second language (language-specific), my academic, and language knowledge to have personalised study plans for my students. I do not believe in a grammar-focused study plan, and I hope my students can learn the things they want (one student particularly wanted to learn Chinese poetry, which meant teaching him modern Chinese syntax or rhyme would not make sense). Some of my students felt they were more prepared when they went on exchange. In terms of characters learning (both simplified and traditional), I also would re-arrange the plans (ex. an exam-focused plan would contain a denser portion of character learning than a person who just wants to watch C-drama ).
