I like to give small objectives, so that the student can directly see their improvement in the short term, as well as longer-term objectives, which will be worked on regularly during the lessons. I started playing guitar with rock, then moved on to a more rock/funk side and it's been 3 years now that I've focused on jazz. But I regularly come back to my first loves!
