I generally structure my lessons in the format of long tones, scales, sight-reading, etude and pieces. Depending on the student's ability and goals when it comes to playing the oboe, I may vary my lesson structure slightly in order to suit each individual student's needs best. Long tones and scales are the two things I still do every single day to this day, even after many years of playing the oboe professionally. They are the fundamental building blocks of tone, support and breathing and therefore need to be practiced regularly. This is why I always start my lessons with these, regardless of the student's level of playing. Sight-reading is a very useful tool to acquire, especially if you would like to play in ensembles. And as for etudes and pieces, I believe that technique and musicality go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other in order to play music to a high level. Therefore I encourage all my students to practice both.

This is the best job I have done in this lockdown period and I am so happy to see my kid happy and confident. I now want to share what I have learnt with my daughter with any other kids who might want some assistance to brush up their Maths skills. It is very important to have a strong Maths base as that helps with their confidence and to do better in senior classes. I plan to take only few kids to start with for online teaching. After 2 months of hard work with my daughter, I have my own tricks and games to help develop the skills needed for good Maths foundation for any kid out there who wants to be good and confident in Maths. Also as this is aimed for primary kids, the each online class will be for half an hour. What I have realised with my daughter is that she is best first half an hour and then she starts to loose focus and gets tired. So ideally what I am aiming for is a half hour class where we will cover one Math skill and questions on that skill. Also I will give them homework on that skill for which there would be a deadline to return so that I can see where they are progressing and where they need more support. With my daughter I also do 15 minutes of mental maths every day. This is very important for continuous progression and learning.
