Hi! I'm a full-time professional trumpeter offering personalized trumpet and/or improvisation lessons focused on developing confidence, creativity, and a clear practice strategy. I hold a Master's degree in Jazz Trumpet and a Master's degree in Education, combining high-level artistic training with a deep understanding of how people learn. My goal is not only to help you play better but to teach you how to practice effectively, so you continue making progress long after each lesson. I perform weekly across a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, pop, funk, rock, soul, reggae, and african music. I'm the bandleader of Unfinished Business, The Fela Kuti Celebration Band and the Seba Colson Quintet. In addition, I'm bandmember of Lucid Lucia, Hnita Bigband, Nana Osei, Nuff Said, Jazbyssinia and The Very Bigband. Throughout my career, I've shared the stage with renowned artists including John Clayton, Joe Bowie (Defunkt), Chris Potter, Bert Joris, Jef Neve, Gregory Hutchinson, Frank Vaganée, Zap Mama, Manou Gallo, Amir Sulaiman, K.ZIA, Selah Sue, and many others. This real-world experience allows me to connect jazz improvisation with practical musicianship and the skills needed to become a versatile performer. Every student is different, so lessons are tailored to your goals, experience, and musical interests. Contact me if you're interested in one or more of these: Trumpet lessons (complete beginners, advanced players and everything inbetween) Rhythm and phrasing (all instruments) Effective practice methods (all instruments) Improvisation (all instruments) Ear training and transcription Harmony and music theory Sound, technique, and articulation (all instruments) Jazz vocabulary and repertoire (all instruments) Building confidence and musical expression (all instruments) I love teaching people who are searching for ways to grow. I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

The first thing I would have to highlight about Alí is the good energy he offers you. You really find yourself in a calm and motivating work environment where you can really improve your musical knowledge. Alí strives to adjust his work method to what you need as a student, keeping in mind your musical taste to work through it. I am really happy to work and build up myself musically with him. Really recommendable!
