I started my career as an English language teacher in 2008 and soon became very passionate about language learning and teaching. This culminated in a Masters degree in second-language acquisition and a CELTA Certificate from Dundee College. I specialised in Trinity and Cambridge exams and also in conversational English for practical and everyday use. After many years overseas, both teaching and examining English, I have returned to Spain and am available to share my extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of English. I currently work as an Aviation teacher in a school in Alicante where I have taught for some years. My teaching approach is student-centred and communicative, where learning is a positive experience in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. All my students are encouraged to speak as much as possible to increase fluency. Professionalism, patience and a good sense of humour guaranteed! All lesson materials are provided free of charge. I teach using a mixture of coursebook material , whiteboard presentations, listening activities, video clips and general speaking practice. While my classes are 100% in English, I can also speak Spanish and some Italian words. This gives me a real insight as to why students make certain mistakes, and how to best avoid them. I really enjoy teaching and helping people improve and grow in confidence. We all learn at different paces and in different ways. My job is to give you the tools to learn and enjoy the process. I am a professional English teacher but I like teaching Turkish more as it is my mother tongue and it is a great pleasure for me to share its secrets and beauty. I prepare written and verbal dialogues in the areas the student is interested in. I am from Istanbul but I traveled almost all cities, mountains, rivers, lakes in Turkey. I can teach at my place and your place (all around Istanbul). I use several books using a grammar-based approach integrated with communicative methods to boost the development of all language skills. But we always focus on TALK, TALK, TALK. As a language learner for many years, I know one can learn, improve and take pleasure in a foreign language only by talking and communicating. It is essential to get direct pleasure from what you have learned. My aim is to motivate and inspire you to speak Turkish ignoring minor mistakes and without thinking grammar. Maria is an excellent teacher who can adapt her teaching style according to her student. My daughter and I both had lessons with her and we both found the lessons both enjoyable and challenging. We both feel we made progress. My daughter has had several tutors over the years and thinks Maria is, for her, perfect. We’ve had two in-person sessions with Hatice so far and they have been excellent. Her classes are engaging and accessible to students of different levels. In a class, she is very skilled at offering depth for someone who has some turkish understanding as well as being accessible to a beginner.
